JUDE
The looming gates make my heart beat even faster. I squeeze the hand I am holding, and Miko turns his head and looks at me, and I try smiling, even though it comes out painfully as a wince.
It's terrifying that Miko is taking me to his home. His grandparents' manor, where I will meet his family and see his parents.
I have been working through all the fears, supporting Miko because he has lost his grandfather, a man he cherished and loved, to be here and help him.
My knuckles are white from the grip I have on his hand, and I realize so when Miko tugs my hand, releasing it with a shaky exhale, just as the car slows down as we approach the gates. He has told me that they are comfortable, and I think I got an idea here and there about how comfortable they are.
