That made me huff out a surprised breath. "What?"
"I mean it," she said with a shaky laugh through her tears. "You've just been… taking hit after hit, one loss after another, without armor. No breaks. No safety net. No breathing room. You go to work, you solve things, you protect people, and you never stop for yourself."
My heart cracked a little.
"You're working so hard for us," Olivia whispered, her voice breaking, "and I don't even deserve a sister like you. Not after the way I spoke to you the last time. I was angry and selfish and stupid. And I... " her words collapsed under the weight of her sobs, "... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't thank you enough. I never tell you how much I love you."
I reached across the bed and wiped her tears gently, trying to keep mine from falling too.
"Don't say that," I murmured. "Don't you dare say that."
"I mean it," she cried. "You deserved kindness. Not whatever this is."
