Chapter 629 - Chapter 629: Bound for Draenor

"However, there is one thing I need to clarify for you."

Just as Noah was at a loss for words, the System spoke again.

It felt strange.

The System had just, in so many words, called him an idiot.

And now it seemed to realize it hadn't finished speaking.

The situation was bizarre, but Noah stayed quiet and waited.

This was for his own benefit.

And honestly, the System wasn't wrong.

He really couldn't act like a true believer.

"Fine," Noah sighed. "What is it?"

"If you're just going to keep insulting me, forget it. I know my personality. As a mage, I can't have the same mindset as those zealots."

"No," the mechanical voice replied calmly. "I wasn't referring to you."

"I intended to inform you that I appear to have discovered a Naaru."

"You know. The being composed of seven floating tiles."

"You found a Naaru?" Noah froze.

Why now?

What was the point of finding one at this time?

Naaru were sentient energy beings.

Masters of both Light and Shadow.

Noah vaguely remembered that when their Light was exhausted, they would enter a Dark Naaru state and recover by absorbing souls.

They were, in a sense, a convergence of Light and Dark.

But that wasn't what mattered.

What mattered was that these "tangram puzzles" possessed absolute mastery over the Holy Light.

And that was exactly what Noah wanted.

Then he frowned.

The problem was the Naaru's state.

And more importantly, its location.

Noah couldn't clearly remember where it was supposed to be.

He had quit too early.

Too much time had passed.

Details were blurred.

He vaguely recalled hearing about a Naaru in some quest hub.

But this was reality.

There were no quest hubs.

After a moment, Noah asked, "Do you know where it is?"

"I do," the System replied. "When the Dark Portal opened, I detected a distinct aura."

"It is behind the Dark Portal."

"Behind the Dark Portal?" Noah rubbed his chin.

"Isn't that Draenor?"

Then realization struck.

"Oh. Wait. I remember now."

"That place turned into Outland, didn't it?"

"Yes," the System confirmed. "It is Outland."

"Although Alonsus Faol's Light gave me a method to understand and acquire this power..."

The System paused.

Noah didn't need it explained.

Faol's Light couldn't compare to a living Naaru.

Naaru were beings that stood at the extreme ends of life and death.

The Holy Light was exactly what Noah had been searching for.

If he found one, he wouldn't be lacking Light to study.

But there was a serious issue.

Could he actually deal with a Naaru?

He wasn't confident.

These so-called "cult leader" beings weren't simple.

He had never seen one fight.

He didn't even know if a Dark Naaru had ever been used as a raid boss.

But they clearly weren't weak.

Noah remembered a cinematic.

A newly resurrected Naaru tried something funny with Illidan.

It ended up getting blasted apart.

Just the act of resurrection alone was unsettling.

Anyone capable of pulling a soul back from death was dangerous.

"You're overthinking it," the System said.

"While their precise strength is unclear, a Naaru's resurrection is not as impressive as you imagine. Especially when its body remains intact."

"Hm?" Noah was curious. "How so?"

"Crossing the land of the dead to retrieve a soul isn't impressive?"

"Beyond the tenth rank," the System replied evenly, "a soul does not necessarily enter the land of the dead at all, provided it is unwilling."

"Look at your teacher. She mastered such magic, but at that level, resistance is possible. That is the domain of Demigods."

"That's ridiculous. Then Cassandra-" Noah started, then stopped.

He fell silent.

Cassandra had wanted to die.

He had overlooked her will.

And the tenth rank wasn't something easily reached.

Even in his own universe, such beings were likely exceedingly rare.

It wasn't strange that he didn't fully understand it.

Besides, a Demigod was still called a god.

Having some control over one's fate made sense.

"So what is a Demigod actually like?" Noah asked.

"Can you explain?"

"You will experience it yourself," the System replied. "You are not far from it."

"You need to feel it firsthand."

"And one more thing."

"Don't underestimate yourself."

Noah paused.

"Then tell me this," he said. "Am I strong in this universe?"

"What do you think?" the System asked in return.

"Why do you believe you are weak?"

"You have already reached the limits of mortality."

The limits of mortality.

Noah tilted his head.

Strictly speaking, that was true.

And it wasn't as if he lacked ways to reach Demigod-level combat power.

Warcraft was high fantasy.

But the gap between the lowest and highest tiers was absurd.

He had the Chrono-Star.

He had dominion over six elemental domains.

As long as he didn't run into Sargeras, Aman'Thul, other Titans of the Pantheon, Void Lords, or Burning Legion heavyweights like Archimonde...

There weren't many who could casually crush him at this point in time.

As long as he didn't do something stupid-like charging headfirst into bosses or invading enemy planets or the depths of the Void-he would be fine.

Even if he couldn't win, he could escape.

Gul'dan had proven one thing.

Time and space control was absurdly powerful.

Maybe he had been underestimating himself all along.

As for the Holy Light...

That power seemed cursed with bad luck.

According to the System's analysis, Noah could attempt to resolve it.

Based on his vague memories, Naaru weren't specialized in combat.

If he couldn't defeat one, he could trap it in a spatial fold.

As long as the cat didn't eat it first.

After that, the System could extract the Holy Light through special means.

If it turned into a Dark Naaru?

Noah didn't care.

It wouldn't recover anyway.

In his memory, Draenor was already a land of mourning.

There would be no shortage of souls.

Even so, Noah asked, "What's your recommendation?"

"Go to Draenor," the System replied.

"I have already located it through the Dark Portal."

"The choice is now yours."

"My choice?" Noah frowned.

"Yes," the System said. "Do you gamble?"

"Or do you continue accumulating power slowly through meditation?"

Two options.

Noah hated choices.

They made him uncomfortable.

His own decisions often backfired.

Honestly, letting him choose felt like letting Thor pilot a spaceship.

Ideally, he should have gone home already.

But the System's proposal forced him to think.

After a long silence, Noah made his decision.

He would take the risk.

"Are you sure I won't run into anything dangerous?" he asked cautiously.

"I don't want trouble."

"Don't worry," the System replied. "Karazhan has been set as a teleport anchor."

"If you encounter serious danger, use the Space Stone. You'll be back instantly."

"Why not my Sanctum?"

"Too far. You cannot cross that distance safely yet."

Noah nodded.

According to the System, if things went wrong, he could rewind to Karazhan with the Time Stone and summon Odin to bring him home.

Of course, it was better to avoid trouble entirely.

No one knew what kind of disaster he might stumble into.

Since he was going in blind, Noah decided to keep the Chrono-Star active at all times.

If he saw a boss, he would run.

"Alright," Noah said. "Let's move."

"I hope this won't be too troublesome."

"In truth, you already know it won't be," the System replied.

"You're just overly cautious."

"At worst, you'll face someone like Gul'dan."

"Your control over time and space is sufficient."

"Caution is a virtue. Excessive fear is not."

How could he not be cautious?

Noah really didn't want to meet any legendary figures.

Not even once.

He took a deep breath.

Pale golden magic rippled around him.

In the next moment, a golden portal opened.

Noah turned.

And stepped inside.
