Chapter 18 - Love, Lies, and Laser Alarms

The squad had been on plenty of missions before, but tonight's gig promised something special: a high-class gala at a billionaire's mansion, the perfect place to blend in and grab a USB drive stuffed with top-secret intel. Or so the client said.

Crimson showed up wearing a tuxedo so bright it looked like a warning signal — red scarf neatly tucked inside, naturally. "Classy, right?" he grinned, adjusting his collar. Leon followed, sunglasses on despite being indoors, flashing his signature grin as he scanned the room for targets — and distractions.

Kazuki was already fiddling with a tiny hacking device, mumbling, "Let's get the security cams offline before we move in."

MJ sniffed the buffet like a bloodhound and sidled off to the dessert table, eyes gleaming at the sight of mini éclairs. Bleaf had disappeared somewhere near the garden fountain, but no one was worried — yet.

Kai sighed, arms crossed, already regretting agreeing to this mission. "Alright, everyone, focus. This is supposed to be quick and clean."

Famous last words.

Triple Date Surprise

Midway through the mission, Crimson's phone buzzed. A message popped up from Valerie — "If you're here, meet me at the lounge. Let's talk."

Before Crimson could text back, Leon's phone lit up with a similar invite from a mysterious woman he'd met at a previous job. Kazuki, not wanting to be left out, got a message from a sharp hacker he'd bumped into last week.

Crimson rolled his eyes. "Great. Triple date, mid-mission."

Leon smirked. "What could go wrong?"

Kazuki shrugged, already halfway to the lounge.

Date Disasters

The three slipped away, leaving Kai, MJ, and Bleaf scrambling. Crimson and Valerie exchanged sharp barbs over Crimson's chaotic reputation — she called it "a hurricane in a tux." Leon was too busy flirting and somehow roping himself into a poker game with some high-rollers, betting everything on "loser cleans the mansion."

Kazuki's date challenged him to a hacking duel on her tablet. Sparks flew — literally, when Kazuki accidentally short-circuited the device.

Back with Kai, MJ, and Bleaf: MJ was sneaking snacks and befriending a coked-up poodle, Bleaf got stuck posing as a garden statue, and Kai was desperately trying to keep the mission on track.

The Chaos Explodes

Kazuki's hacking backfired spectacularly — the mansion's doors locked tight, sprinklers turned on full blast, and an old-school 90s boy band blared from the speakers. Bleaf's accidental firework launch sent car alarms blaring across the neighborhood.

Leon's flirting hit a snag when the billionaire's mafia boss husband arrived. Crimson, meanwhile, knocked over a massive ice sculpture that doused the mission's target in icy water.

Champagne spilled everywhere, and Kai slipped into the giant cake, emerging looking like a dessert disaster.

Security was on their tail. The squad made a ridiculous escape via the pool, launching themselves off the diving board into a waiting speedboat, soaked and laughing hysterically.

The Dark Surprise

Riding the adrenaline high, the squad returned home, joking and teasing each other. That's when Crimson noticed something strange — the front door was slightly open.

Quietly, they peeked inside.

There was Nami, locked in a heated embrace with another man.

The squad froze. Laughter died. Eyes locked in shock.

Kai was out — unaware
