Chapter 374: Soy Milk & Cahkwe Set
"Lingqing, for this morning's breakfast shift, just stay here in the kitchen and watch closely while I cook. If you have any questions, just ask."
"Yes, Teacher," Ye Lingqing nodded earnestly.
Today, his teacher was launching eleven brand-new breakfast dishes, several of which involved dough-making, so he needed to observe and learn carefully.
After last night's dinner service and recruiting a new staff member, Qi Han took down the recruitment notice. Once he saw the other employees off, he dragged Ye Lingqing—who had been planning to stay up to practice a bit longer—straight to bed.
In Qi Han's words, breakfast prep from now on would be his practice time, so there was no need to train at night. It was time to conserve energy.
Usually, Qi Han was woken up around 6 a.m. by Ru Yi, just as the sky began to brighten. But today, to prepare for the 7 a.m. breakfast opening, he woke up an hour earlier. Now, at just 5 a.m., he was already in the kitchen with a wide-awake Ye Lingqing.
Waking up at five and still feeling full of energy—that was all thanks to Ru Yi's high-tech stuff.
Shrek City was still shrouded in darkness at this hour, but Qi Han had already begun kneading dough with Ye Lingqing and quickly preparing all kinds of breakfast items.
He didn't bring every type of breakfast dish from Earth to the Douluo Continent in one go. This time, Qi Han chose a carefully selected group of representative dishes.
After all, he needed to save some surprises for future menu updates.
Of course, another reason was that he simply didn't have enough money to buy all the recipe scrolls yet.
While offering just over ten types of breakfast might seem a bit limited, the ones Qi Han picked were highly representative and should be more than enough to surprise and delight customers.
…
Ji Yunruo stood nervously outside the doors of Han Shi.
Although she had already been working here for a few months, this was her first time serving as a waitress.
Now dressed in a fitted maid uniform and without the usual company of other employees to chat with, she felt a little self-conscious.
"Little Ji, I remember you're one of the delivery staff, right? What's with the waitress outfit?"
Startled, Ji Yunruo quickly turned around and gave a slight bow. "Sect Master."
Tang Qianqiu waved his hand with a smile.
He had a rather good impression of this employee from his own sect.
This was Han Shi's first time serving breakfast, so of course Tang Qianqiu and Qi Poxiao wouldn't miss the occasion. Since the doors hadn't opened yet, the two men figured they'd try to gather a bit of information on what was going to be served.
And Ji Yunruo looked like a good entry point.
After offering a slightly panicked salute, Ji Yunruo finally replied, "Because Ying Shuang and Fu Ya have academy classes during breakfast and late-night hours, I'll be taking the morning shift as a server. The late-night shift will be covered by Xinyan."
"I see," Tang Qianqiu nodded in understanding.
Qi Poxiao, standing nearby, also nodded in satisfaction.
He was, after all, a Sea God's Pavilion Master. Though he didn't often interfere with the outer academy directly, he certainly wouldn't be pleased if students were skipping class right under his nose.
"So about the breakfast… did Little Qi say anything to you about it?" Tang Qianqiu shifted the topic, beginning his inquiry into the new morning offerings.
There was nothing confidential about it.
Ji Yunruo didn't hesitate and answered immediately, "The breakfast is similar to our late-night menu, with dishes completely different from lunch and dinner. As for what exactly is included… I'm not sure myself."
"But yesterday, the Xiaolongbao was taken off the regular menu—that's because the boss moved it to the breakfast set," she added after thinking for a moment.
So the Xiaolongbao is part of the breakfast now?
The customers in line were all eavesdropping with perked-up ears, and this revelation made them all suddenly realize what had happened.
No wonder it disappeared.
Because of all the new dishes introduced yesterday, most people were too distracted to notice it was gone. Only a few had complained, and no one went to confront Qi Han about it.
And now, thanks to the Xiaolongbao, everyone's anticipation for the upcoming breakfast service grew even more intense.
Would the other breakfast dishes be just as delicious?
They didn't have to wait long—Qi Han soon opened the doors, greeted the customers lining up outside, and glanced toward Ji Yunruo.
The normally obedient, cat-eared girl—who always wore her sporty delivery uniform—looked surprisingly adorable in her maid outfit.
"Yunruo, come on in."
"Okay!" Ji Yunruo nodded excitedly and quickly entered the restaurant.
She was about to become the first person to try the breakfast—she was just as eager as the customers.
After closing the door, Qi Han said gently, "Go ahead and sit. You can familiarize yourself with the menu and think about what you'd like to eat."
"Got it!"
Before Qi Han even finished speaking, Ji Yunruo had already picked up the breakfast-exclusive menu.
During breakfast hours, the price board on the wall also changed, now displaying the new breakfast offerings.
Ji Yunruo noticed this, but she was already used to looking at the physical menu instead.
After all, the menu included detailed descriptions and beautiful photos.
There were only twelve breakfast options available for now—and that was counting the Xiaolongbao moved over from lunch.
But even just reading through the descriptions of the other eleven items made Ji Yunruo instinctively swallow a mouthful of saliva.
They all looked so delicious!
After agonizing over the choices for a while, Ji Yunruo suddenly raised her head.
"Boss, I'd like the soy milk and Cahkwe set!"
That golden, crispy-looking Cahkwe looked incredibly tasty!
And according to the menu, it could be eaten in two different ways!
"Alright." Qi Han smiled as he turned toward the kitchen. "You can keep looking over the rest of the breakfast items. You might need to introduce them to customers later."
"Mhm!" Ji Yunruo nodded firmly.
She had never worked as a waitress before, but from watching Fu Ya work from time to time, she had a decent idea of the responsibilities. Plus, she had asked Fu Ya and Ying Shuang for advice just last night.
While waiting for her breakfast, Ji Yunruo continued studying the menu.
She couldn't help but notice that the breakfast items were much cheaper than the lunch and dinner offerings, mostly consisting of staple foods.
Affordable, filling, and nutritious—that seemed to be the idea.
She went over all the prices. The cheapest items were even less than a single gold coin, needing just a few silver ones.
The soy milk and Cahkwe set she chose was made with particularly fine ingredients—the soybeans used included a rare spiritual bean called the Earthly Linglong Bean. Even in small amounts, it was highly valuable.
Yet the entire set cost only two gold coins.
And based on the portion size description, a single set was enough to completely fill her up.
Ji Yunruo silently memorized all the dishes and their key features from the menu, mentally rehearsing how she'd describe them to customers later.
Soon, her breakfast arrived.
A rich aroma hit her instantly, making her eyes widen in delight.
The piping hot Cahkwe were golden and crispy, about as long as her forearm. The middle had a deep groove, as if the two halves were splitting apart, but the dough still held together firmly. The joint was pale and soft, in stark contrast to the golden exterior.
On the tray, three perfectly arranged Cahkwe were laid out alongside a large bowl of soy milk and a small bowl of fine, snow-like powdered sugar.
"Go on, try it," Qi Han said with a small smile.
"Okay!" Ji Yunruo nodded eagerly, clearly ready to dig in.
