Chapter 373: Starting Work Tomorrow
"We came this early and still couldn't make it into the first group, huh?" Zhao Panqing glanced at the line ahead of them, then chuckled. "But we should be able to get into the second batch."
"Captain, I heard Han Shi is launching a breakfast menu tomorrow morning too!" said Tan Ling, the only female member of the Undying Team, cheerfully. "It's supposed to be similar to their usual dishes. Should we come try it again tomorrow?"
"No money, no money!" Zhao Panqing feigned panic, drawing laughter from the team.
Mo Ran laughed along as well. The captain was always a humorous one.
His gaze drifted back to the notice board, eyes showing a trace of contemplation.
"Xiao Mo, if you're not leaving Shrek City tomorrow, want to come try the breakfast with us?" Zhao Panqing suggested after a moment of thought, noticing Mo Ran staring at the board.
"Captain, I wasn't looking at that." Mo Ran shook his head with a smile. He had already noticed the recruitment notice on Han Shi's board when passing by earlier—now he was just trying to read the details more clearly.
Maybe… He could work at Han Shi as a waiter?
Even though it didn't really align with his capabilities, it sounded like an easy job.
…
"Boss, boss!"
Fu Ya hurried into the kitchen. "A customer said he wants to stay and work here as a waiter. He'd like to know more about it."
"Oh?" Qi Han paused what he was doing. "Which one?"
"The young man with brown hair sitting at that table over there."
Following Fu Ya's direction, Qi Han's eyes quickly landed on the young man in question.
Great. He's a guy.
Qi Han secretly breathed a sigh of relief—he'd been wanting to balance out the overly female-heavy staff at the restaurant.
"Tell him to come back after business hours. I'll talk to him myself then."
"Got it!"
Out in the dining area, when Mo Ran brought up the waiter job with Fu Ya, the rest of the Undying Team looked a little stunned.
"Xiao Mo, you…" Zhao Panqing was briefly caught off guard, but quickly collected himself. He gave Mo Ran a complicated look. "You sure you don't want to think it over again?"
With Mo Ran's abilities, the military would surely welcome him with open arms.
After all, the military was always in desperate need of support- and food-type spirit masters. Mo Ran's skillset was especially suited for large-scale combat support, so it wouldn't be hard for him to earn merit and rise quickly through the ranks.
But being a waiter…
To be honest, Zhao Panqing didn't see any future in it.
Even if Han Shi was a mysterious, magical restaurant… a waiter was still just a waiter, right?
What kind of future could that have?
"I've already made up my mind, Captain," Mo Ran said, his expression growing firm.
He had visited Han Shi once or twice before, but never paid much attention to the staff.
As a customer, the focus was naturally on the food.
But since he'd seriously considered applying, Mo Ran had taken a closer look at the two waiters and two delivery staff earlier—and what he saw surprised him.
The two waiters at Han Shi… looked oddly familiar.
Having spent years in the Great Spirit Arena of Shrek City, Mo Ran quickly realized why the two waiters looked familiar.
They were also Spirit Fighters!
If he remembered correctly, the two of them were part of a duo known as the Peerless Pair—a two-person team, both at the four-ring level, and both Gold Spirit Fighters.
While the difficulty of earning Gold rank as a two-person team was lower than for seven-person teams, it still spoke volumes about their strength and skill.
Moreover, the two were reportedly outer academy students of Shrek Academy.
Why would the two of them willingly become waitstaff here?
And then there were the two delivery staff as well…
Mo Ran couldn't see their faces since they wore helmets, but from their swift movements as they wove through the restaurant, they were no slower than the Undying Team's two agility-type spirit masters.
At the very least, those two had to be agility-type spirit masters with four rings—and possibly more.
That was an easy conclusion for Mo Ran to reach, and it made him all the more surprised.
To attract four spirit masters of that caliber to work as staff… this restaurant, Han Shi, must have something truly special.
To this day, aside from the employees themselves, no one really knew what kind of benefits Han Shi offered its staff.
And the four employees had never gone around bragging about it.
That was likely why, despite Han Shi's booming business, very few people had actually applied for the job.
Putting aside the monthly salary of 300 gold coins—which was considered high in Shrek City—the fact that employees could order anything they wanted as their staff meals was enough to make over half the customers here leap at the chance to apply.
Although Mo Ran didn't know this either, he still decided to give it a try. If other four-ring spirit masters were willing to stay here as employees, then surely there was something here that might attract him too?
Besides, after fighting alongside his team for so long, maybe it was time for a lighter job—a change of pace, a fresh start.
Seeing that Mo Ran had made up his mind, Zhao Panqing didn't try to dissuade him further.
Fu Ya soon relayed Qi Han's message to Mo Ran, and the members of the Undying Team, having finished their meal, stood up to leave Han Shi.
"Xiao Mo, are you really going to come back later to talk about the job?" Zhao Panqing couldn't help asking as they stepped outside.
"Yeah, I'm planning to look around the area a bit, then head back. So I'll say goodbye for now." Mo Ran stopped walking and looked deeply at the teammates he had spent so many days and nights with. "I'll try to come watch your future spirit duels whenever I can."
"…Alright." Zhao Panqing gave Mo Ran a firm pat on the shoulder with his broad hand and let out a sigh. "Then we'll get going."
The other team members left quietly, their expressions heavy. Even Meng Ke didn't say anything sarcastic for once.
Watching their retreating figures, Mo Ran reached into his robe and took out the recently earned Gold Fighter badge, a soft smile spreading across his face.
This badge… can serve as a memento of the efforts he once made.
As for now… where should he go?
Mo Ran thought for a moment, then quickly made up his mind.
The food street sounds like a good place.
Since he was about to apply for a job as a waiter, he might as well go observe what waiters elsewhere actually had to do.
…
The evening service was even busier than lunch—probably due to the word of mouth spreading about the newly launched dishes. More and more customers came specifically to try them.
As the two-hour dinner shift came to an end, Qi Han stretched his sore muscles and took off his apron as he walked out of the kitchen.
"That applicant…" Qi Han had barely spoken when he spotted the handsome, brown-haired young man from earlier walk into the restaurant.
"Good evening, Boss Qi." Despite Qi Han's now well-established fame in Shrek City, Mo Ran still carried a hint of nervousness. "I'm here to apply for the waiter position."
"Any issues with the working hours?" Seeing Mo Ran arrive, Qi Han didn't waste time with small talk and got straight to the point.
"No problem at all," Mo Ran replied with a shake of his head. Four hours of work per day—honestly, it sounded way too easy.
"As for the compensation: three hundred gold coins per month, plus two meals per shift. You're allowed to order anything off the menu for staff meals, but no wasting food."
Qi Han, now a four-ring spirit master himself, could clearly sense that Mo Ran also possessed a four-ring spirit power level, so he offered the same benefits as he had given Fu Ya.
"This…" Mo Ran's eyes widened in shock.
This offer was way too generous.
Three hundred gold coins? That was dozens of times more than what he had expected!
And with staff meals included—and not just any meals, but anything off the menu—the perks were arguably even better than the pay itself, especially considering how expensive Han Shi's dishes were.
In that instant, he suddenly understood why the other employees had chosen to stay.
"What is it?" Qi Han couldn't help but ask when he saw Mo Ran's stunned expression.
"Oh, it's nothing," Mo Ran quickly shook his head.
He had zero complaints about these terms!
"Great. If there's nothing else, then start work tomorrow." Qi Han smiled slightly. "By the way… I don't think I got your name?"
"I'm Mo Ran."
"Well then…" Qi Han's smile deepened. "Mo Ran, welcome to Han Shi."
