Chapter 18 - Finding common grounds (2/2)

Kace couldn't hide his embarrassment. Even he was shocked by what he just said. He looked sideways and spotted Orette hiding her smirk while resting.

Rosa quickly followed Kace's glance and yelled, "WHAT HAVE YOU EMBORIELED MY COUSIN IN?" to Orette. She stood up and walked towards Orette, only to grab her by the collar.

Orette, having no strength in herself, just slumped like a dead body. "I was just messing with him", she said in amusement.

" 'Messing with him' ". Rosa shook Orette's collar in anger. "Is that all there is to you? Messing with other people? Do you even care about the consequences of your vile words?".

"Oh come on, Rosemary". Orette chuckled, "You of all people know that no one takes my word seriously, and it was just a joke. Something you can learn if you want people to like you".

"What. Did. You. Just. Say?" Red hue glowed in Rosa's eyes.

"I said". Orette faced her. "You could learn to joke for people to like you," She came closer to Rosa's ear and whispered. "Having a reputation stuck in mud like your father can be really bothersome".

Rosa swung her fist at Orette, but Orette dodged swiftly and broke free from Rosa's grip. She rubbed her neck, easing the tension, and gave a sinister smile.

"So that's how you want to play", she said. Her fingers twitched one after another, and her feet continuously stopped on the ground.

She observed Rosa's frown and noted that she still had the redness of her syrium in her eyes. Her hands were in a fist, shaking with fury, but regardless of saying, she still brought them like a fighter in a ring.

"Then let's play," Orette whispered, her eyes flashing blue as she charged forward and aimed a kick at Rosa's face.

Rosa blocked it and held it with one arm to pull Orette close and aim another fist at her. Orette stumbles back after taking a hit, releasing a groan. Nonetheless, she stood firm and charged again. She flipped over Rosa in a surprise move and swept her legs out, knocking Rosa to her knees.

Rosa tried to rise, but Orette kicked her down again, forcing her flat on the ground. The smell of blood triggered her as Rosa's back was starting to get wet with blood.

Fear climbed over Orette as she bent down to check the injury, but Rosa immediately stood and punched Orette in the jaw. That hit sent her flying across the ground and landed in the dense forest.

Dust rose around her as she landed, and through the haze, her glowing blue eyes reappeared.

Orette leapt high and attacked again, but Rosa blocked her. Orette swung her leg around Rosa's neck, choking her mid-air.

Rosa's weight was dragged to the ground, making her fall. She stumbles and fails miserably as the strength in her body collapses.

She could smell the sweat and odor from the sewers. The saliva in her mouth was dry, and the only vision she had was of the dull blue sky. But then it hit her.

Suddenly, the scenery changed—no trees, no shrubs, just sky. Orette, still choking Rosa, looked around in confusion. Then gravity pulled them both down.

Panicked, Orette released Rosa. Rosa teleports again to the ground and waits for Orette to fall. She then punches so hard on Orette's back that the sound of her bones cracking is audible.

Orette ascended into the sky from Rosa's punch, and was dragged back down by more force since Rosa teleported to her again and clapped her fists together and punched harder into her stomach.

She did this four times until Orette flew across the landscape and crashed into a small wooden dam built by beavers near the riverside.

Rosa exhaled shakily as she teleported to the riverside bench. Her legs dragged beneath her as she approached the shattered wood, weaving through dust and startled beavers.

She came closer and closer to the narrow clusters of wood when, suddenly, a big, thick log passed by her face at intense speed. Rosa, shocked and afraid, was thinking of the sudden encounter.

Turning slowly, she saw the log pulsing faintly with electromagnetic energy. The ground trembled beneath her feet. Something was wrong. Very wrong.

She looked up.

Hundreds of sharpened logs hovered in the sky, their tips gleaming like blades. All pointed at her.

Panic arose quickly. Rosa tried to teleport but more wood blocked her path, closing in like a trap. The first logs descended with terrifying speed

"SHIT!!!", she cursed from her dry mouth as she escaped towards the dense forestry. "Aaah!".

Having no time to scan her surroundings, she ran and ran further in depth, but it was no use. Five logs struck in front of her. Rosa was on the verge of collapsing; She needed rest. She needed time. But neither would come.

She teleported back to the riverside bench, where she found Orette waiting.

Her normal stare turned into a monologue of chaos. Rosa's eyes were distorted by the sight of Orette's blank face. No anger. No joy. Just those glowing blue eyes.

Orette raised her hand to the sky. Logs spiraled above her like a storm.

"Oh God," Rosa whispered. "I'm going to die."

Orette pointed.

The logs launched like missiles.

Rosa curled her arms around herself, trembling. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! God dammit!".
