Soon news came out again that Jiang Yiran was reported by Fu Ling. Just when everyone was wondering what this had to do with everything else, a few "well informed" people came out to disclose that this Jiang Yiran used to be very close to Fu Ling when he was still in the Fu family and became Fu Haoming's fiancee after he returned to the Fu family. Not to mention, she was taken out from Gu Yunnain's ward at a time when Fu Ling was supposed to be out.
Netizens were best at weaving stories and joining two and two together. Especially when someone mentioned they just happened to bump into this lady going to visit Fu Haoming.
If the previous revelations were parallel lines that didn't have a way of coming together, this new piece of information was what caused them to intersect. Now everyone was sure that the reason why she went to Gu Yunnain's ward was to do something to him under Fu Haoming's instigation but was caught by Fu Ling and sent to the station instead.
The authorities took Jing Yiran's case seriously and because of the overwhelming evidence provided by Fu Ling, she was publicly triled along with Fu Haoming. Some few reporters were given access to truthfully record all happenings and pass it on to the general public.
As such, everyone who paid attention to it felt like they were part of the case. And as a large number of people followed it from the first trial to the last, no one was able to successfully accuse anyone of foul play.
They were both sentenced accordingly and gradually the buzz died down and things settled down for Fu Ling.
He dedicated his time to Gu corporation and his methods left many people in awe. They seemed to realize that this so called dandy was just pretending to be a pig to eat the tiger previously and members of the upper class couldn't help but sigh at the Fu family's loss again.
Everything was coming together but one thing that bothered Fu Ling was that Gu Yunnain didn't show signs of waking up. He contacted many experts but the result was all the same. And there was nothing wrong with his condition either. All signs showed that he was in deep sleep.
Gu Yunnain's "family" persuaded him to take him home but he refused. He told them that he would be more relaxed knowing that Gu Yunnain would be able to get medical assistance on the spot in case of any emergency.
When they noticed that their words meant nothing to him, they finally left him alone. As for Gu Heng, he was cautious for a while but seeing as Fu Ling didn't do anything to him, he started becoming arrogant again. Fu Ling just turned a blind eye to all these and focused solely on Gu group and from time to time he would help Wen Jingshi out.
Fu Ling was at the company when he got he call that Gu Yunnain was awake. Without thinking of anything else, he quickly rushed out leaving behind a bunch of confused workers.
Upon reaching the door of the ward, Fu Ling paused and straightened out his clothes unconsciously displaying a hint of nervousness.
Fu Ling pushed open the door and met Gu Yunnain's eyes. A smile immediately formed on his lips as he quickened his footsteps. Before long, he was at the edge of the bed.
He took Gu Yunnain's hand into and his nose felt slightly sore.
"You're awake"
Gu Yunnain looked at the person with unmistakable heartache in his eyes.
"I'm sorry for making you worry." After a slight pause he added "This won't happen again"
Fu Ling couldn't help but laugh and brushed away the hair on Gu Yunnain's forehead
"It's not your fault. No one would have thought you would be unconscious for so long"
Gu Yunnain pursed his lips
"But I should have calculated the distance clearly. I was careless and caused myself to get hurt which caused you heartache"
After going back and forth with both if them trying to claim the blame, they looked into each other's eyes and suddenly laughed out loud.
Fu Ling leaned down and rubbed his cheek on Gu Yunnain's face.
"I missed you so much"
There was the sound of throat clearing and Fu Ling snapped up to see a team of doctors behind. His ears turned red unconsciously and he coughed uncomfortably.
The leading doctor spoke to dispell the awkward atmosphere
"Mr Fu, we are about to perform some routine tests on Mr Gu."
Fu Ling nodded and freed his hand from Gu Yunnain's and sat on the chair at the side. He understood that because of Gu Yunnain's situation, he would have to go through a period of close monitoring.
Sure enough, after picking, prodding and taking notes, the team of professionals exited and the ward became empty again.
A few days later, Gu Yunnain was cleared to be discharged. Fu Ling delegated most of the work to assistant Wen and accompanied Gu Yunnain through out the recovery process.
Because nothing was really wrong with him at the later stage and he received timely care at the former stage, it wasn't long before Gu Yunnain was up and running again. Fu Ling could finally go back to being a salted fish.
After learning that Gu Heng was the orchestrator behind his car accident, Gu Yunnain dealt with him cleanly and he joined the other two in jail.
The Gu family tried to put pressure on him for the sake of family relations but when he threatened to step down, they all retreated. They were greedy not stupid. Gu Yunnain leading Gu corporation was obviously their best bet. They would naturally put their own interests first. As for Gu Heng's mother, she had already given up on that son.
When Gu Yunnain saw that they stopped making trouble, he was a bit disappointed. He could have used this opportunity to push this workload on someone else and spend more time with his baby. But this was okay too. He could always come up with another excuse.
Gu Yunnain lived with Fu Ling after being discharged and even when he recovered, he refused to move out. The couple was out traveling the world so it was just the two of them.
Gu Yunnain went home and was met with darkness. He stood at the door letting his thoughts run amok. Dis he forget something? What day was it? Was it their anniversary? He quickly shook his head. No that was in two months. His birthday? Not that either? Fu Ling's birthday? Valentine's day? As he mentality crossed out several special occasions in his mind, the lights turned on revealing the decorated room.
Fu Ling laughed happily and ran into his arms
"Surprise!"
Gu Yunnain dropped his bag and reached out to catch him.
With his arms wrapped around his neck Fu Ling stared closely at Gu Yunnain
"How about that? Are you surprised?"
Gu Yunnain nodded
"Very surprised."
"I just felt like throwing you a surprise dinner"
Gu Yunnain secretly gave a sigh of relief that he didn't forget anything important. Before he could catch his breath, Fu Ling jumped down from his arms and dragged him to the table.
His favorite dishes were arranged carefully and Gu Yunnain couldn't help the sweet feeling that spread in his heart. He turned around to say something but saw Fu Ling on one kneel. Gu Yunnain's heart skipped a beat.
Fu Ling rubbed his sweaty hands on his shirt and opened the ring box.
"Gu Yunnain will you marry me?"
Gu Yunnain felt a myriad of emotions in his heart and there were many things he wanted to say but all these things condensed into one word.
"Yes"
