Chapter 72 - A Lost Paige Part 6.1 (Paige)

6.

Click.

Paige gaped. Like a demon born of night, Jin charged with nothing more than a thin rod.

One v five.

Six, if the giant finally let go.

She wailed against the grip. Jin was insane, people didn't do so much for so little. Men like that didn't exist. Her counterpart had something she hadn't ruined?

"Don't die you idiot."

Her diaphragm burned, setting her chest alight.

The five attacked.

Some were trying to multitask, fixing their guns while others gave up and pulled curved daggers. Every gun breaking at the same time was odd, not impossible though. It was impressive they'd not devolved into muskets, but they likely still would have shot, if they didn't fall apart, returning into their original elements. Not that it mattered Jin had just collided.

'Oh God'

Jin speared the front runner, dropping him. The rod did its business. He was up in a flash swinging, catching Thug two in the chin. Thug three swung his gun.

It clubbed Jin hard on the back, he fell only to spin on the floor and slam the rod against the third's shin. Three fell but four and five had taken his place. Paige screamed in a way she'd never when a dagger dug into his back. The scream was horse, pathetic and unnatural. Better deserving of the kid.

Jin lifted the pole into Five's groin. Four pulled out his own dagger, Jin wasn't waiting. They slammed into each other. Face to face, foreheads touching. Four fell clutching a mystery dagger, stuck in his chest.

Jin staggered towards Paige, blood soaking his shirt. She knew fatal when she saw it.

The giant let go, sprinting.

She closed her eyes, slowing her manic breathing. There was an unknown world to her powers, one she couldn't fully grasp but had more time with than most.

Paige had experience, will, desperation.

She gritted her teeth, breathed slow, a grin formed. A whistle flowed from her teeth as she hissed, focusing every bit of energy she could muster.

Her power, it wasn't as it should have been, instead it was whittled, distorted. It refused to pay attention, but sucked itself in. No matter what, it was needed. It would obey. She'd never put so much hope and fear into a single strike.

The target, the ankle.

Jin caught her eye.

There was a moment, it was perfect. He parted his legs and readied, the rod now a baseball bat.

There'd only be a push. One…

That was enough.

She waited.

The giant's ankle raised behind him in mid sprint.

She swatted the air, the heel clipped.

The giant tripped just short of Jin, who swung… and caught him in the chin.

Others were rising and Paige could hear fresh activity.
