Chapter 37 - Deeper In

Sin wanted to look for an exit, but before that, he knelt down beside the ogre corpse.

Rummaging around, he searched for anything else of value that the ogre had. This was a pretty decent opportunity to find something worth of value.

Sin had no clue about the age or history of this ogre, but from how it acted a minute ago, he at least hoped that it had the remains and treasures of old hunters.

Then again, no one had ever found this part of this dungeon before to Sin's knowledge, so it was still kind of like gambling at best.

Other than the janky armor, Sin found nothing for most of his search. At the end, however, there was a small piece of metal that looked like it wasn't from the ogre's armor.

This piece of metal was much cleaner, and was in fact made of an entirely different material altogether.

Sin took a good look at it. Inspecting it closer, it looked like 1/4 of a circular metal donut. Flat, and molded with a few scaly patterns.

'Huh... it kind of looks valuable, so I guess I'll keep it for now.'

After this, Sin began to search for an exit. The room was massive, but it was very open and also lit up decently.

Lanterns were all across the walls, so Sin could survey the entire room from just one location.

From what he could see, there were three different directions that he could go.

He figured this since there looked to be outlines of three massive 12-foot tall doors that only looked like patterns before.

At the center of each of them were small engravings that stood out. Sin went to the one closest to him to inspect the engraving pattern.

Surprisingly enough, the pattern matched exactly the shape of the object he retrieved from the ogre.

It was a 1/4 of a circle. Looking at the other doors, the second door had 2/4 of a circle, and the third and final door had 3/4 of a circle pattern.

'I see...' Sin quickly pieced things together, 'I don't know why it was created like this, but whoever created this place had a plan behind it. They want me to specifically move in this direction--making sure to control my progression so that I follow their rules. But why though?'

He was a bit confused still. Usually Sin didn't question stuff much and just went along with it full throttle, but right now he wanted to pause and think.

This was meant to be a normal ogre dungeon, but with the discovery of the last two rooms, Sin was beginning to get curious about what the hell this place really was.

Then, he finally noticed the unique and beautiful pattern on the ground. He took a few steps back, looking at it with widened eyes filled with intrigue.

There were three lines, each one going to the different doorways. Each

line was surrounded by a single soul-like being that moved around the line like a helix until reaching its destination.

This was almost like a metaphorical way to represent a Spirit.

'Tombs? Is it a gravesite? That could explain why the ogre looked undead... but still. It's making me fight undead powerful beasts. Why? It doesn't make any sense.'

He couldn't figure it out, so he decided to put this aside for now.

Before thinking too much, he was going to take action. He used the current circle piece at the appropriate door.

Instantly, the door gleamed in a light white outline. At the same time, the 1/4 metal piece unclicked from the door socket and returned to Sin's hands.

And just like that, the door opened from above--pulling into the ceiling and opening a wide and dark hallway.

Sin walked inside, slowly making his way through. He didn't have any source of light except for the room behind him.

However, even that light was quickly suffocated by the never-ending darkness of the hallway ahead.

As soon as his vision fully dissipated, Sin stopped moving and closed his eyes for a minute straight.

After opening them again, his vision had gotten slightly more acclimated to the darkness. This was a tip Sin often used when going for a wee in the middle of the night in a jungle or something.

By closing his eyes, they would get used to being in the dark more. Just a single minute of closing one's eyes was enough to at least not make a dark area pitch-black to the point where you couldn't see anything.

Now, although Sin could only just barely see a few feet around him, he felt far more confident than before.

With his vision slightly restored, he looked around. He immediately noticed a torch on the wall--obviously unlit.

Then, he noticed a row of torches continuing down the hall for as far as his eyes could see. Usually, this would be a long distance. But here, it didn't really mean much considering Sin was practically legally blind still.

After the torches, Sin noticed the door right next to him. It was made of wood, but now looked to be rotten and gray--nearly falling apart.

This door was beside one of the torches. Looking forward again, Sin now noticed that there was a door beside each torch.

Then, he noticed the doors on his left as well...

'Hm...' He mused, 'Weird ass place...' Sin reached for his storage bag.

However, he noticed that it was gone.

'Oh, that's right. I put all of my belongings in my inventory. System, open inv.'

A square panel appeared in front of Sin's vision. Inside of it were several squares that were filled up with different things.

After taking a good look, Sin finally found what he was looking for. He clicked the flint and steel with his finger, grabbing it from his inventory.

'I had nothing to use this on before, but this torch should do the job.' Sin sparked the flint and steel toward the torch--instantly lighting it.

It still seemed fairly well preserved, but Sin still knew that the main reason it lit up so easily was due to the highly inflammable dust and spider webs all around it.

He picked the torch off of the wall before reaching for one of the door handles and pushing it open.

What he saw inside was enough to leave his mouth agape.
