"And my sister has made good on that promise," Selene exhaled, her voice carrying across the vast wildflower field, the petals bowing with the soft breeze.
Sumaya stared at her, worry etched into her young face. She hunched low on the flowers where she sat, her hands fidgeting against her knees.
"When they banished her," Selene continued, her gaze lost in the rolling horizon, "they did not strip her of her powers, nor would I have wished it. But I never expected her to use it to help hunters track my children."
Sumaya's brows knit tightly. Selene's words fell heavy, each one tightening her chest.
"She even led some astray into darker paths," Selene's tone dropped lower, almost bitter. "In her quest to drag them away from me, she guided them toward shadows that were never meant to be touched. They are the ones you now know as vampires."
"Vampires exist?" Sumaya gasped, her eyes widening, her voice a whisper laced with disbelief.
