Chapter 301 - HP: Wizardry’s a Hassle, Wand-Chapter 30: The Prophecy of Death

"That's exactly why we're all so uneasy about the prophecy Professor Trelawney made for Harry."

Lavender said this with lingering fear, looking like she truly believed in Professor Trelawney's prophecy without question. Across from her, Neville also nodded solemnly.

"And just now I heard Harry say that he really has seen a big black dog recently."

Neville's complexion didn't look good as he revealed this information.

"My God, that's terrifying! Doesn't that mean the prophecy is completely accurate?!"

Lavender dramatically whispered, and Parvati beside her was also frightened by Neville's words, her face turning ugly.

"A big black dog?"

Hermione raised an eyebrow—new information had suddenly appeared. This was probably another thing they'd encountered in Divination class.

But looking at everyone's expressions, this "big black dog" was probably the source of panic and unease for quite a few young witches and wizards from last class until now.

But why Harry again?

Was this child just too unlucky?

"The big black dog they're talking about is also one of Professor Trelawney's prophecies, but it's also the most terrifying prophecy."

Parvati saw Lavender falling into panic, patted her good friend to comfort her, and began explaining to Hermione.

"Let me tell you the complete prophecy about Harry."

Hearing this, Hermione sat properly like a good child listening carefully to a story.

Parvati took a deep breath and began simply narrating what had happened in Divination class that morning.

"The first divination activity Professor Trelawney assigned us was fortune-telling through tea leaves."

"Following the procedures in Unfogging the Future, after the process, you can get information predicted by that person's tea leaf residue at the bottom of the teacup. That's roughly what the divination is about."

"Harry's teacup was personally interpreted by Professor Trelawney, so we all really believed what she said at the time."

"Of course, we still do now."

"Professor Trelawney said the pattern shown by Harry's tea leaf residue was first a falcon, which means he has a mortal enemy."

Hermione nodded slightly, thinking to herself.

"This point is indeed correct. Harry is the savior in the prophecy who will defeat Voldemort, and Voldemort has always wanted to kill Harry."

"But isn't this common knowledge?"

She didn't voice her complaint and continued quietly listening to Parvati's account.

"Then Professor Trelawney continued rotating the teacup, observing from different angles, rotating three times total. The first two times were respectively a club and a skull. The professor said those represented an attack that would happen soon, and great danger in the future."

Hermione's expression became somewhat unnatural. The prophecies Professor Trelawney spoke didn't seem like anything particularly special.

Was that Divination professor really a proper professor?

The little girl increasingly doubted this matter.

"But the first three weren't the point. Although they sounded dangerous, they didn't seem to involve Harry's life safety. The most important was the fourth reading."

Parvati's tone became increasingly heavy, dramatically lowering her voice.

"The pattern Professor Trelawney saw the fourth time was a ghostly pitch-black dog wandering in a graveyard!"

"The professor said that was inauspicious, an evil omen! The worst, worst evil omen, an omen deadly enough to kill!"

"Professor Trelawney had never made death prophecies in other people's teacups before!"

"Though we should add the limitation 'this class' to that statement."

Hermione couldn't help making a sarcastic comment, after all Professor McGonagall had confirmed that Professor Trelawney seemed to predict young witches' and wizards' deaths more or less every semester for classroom effect.

"But this omen... I remember there's a book sold at Flourish and Blotts, Death Omens—I think the cover of that book is a big black dog?"

"The one we saw in the bookstore before."

Hermione cupped her chin, thought about it, and said this to Lavender and Parvati.

The two girls tilted their heads in unison, looking like they had no such impression.

Well... that made sense, after all not everyone would pay special attention to information on books like Hermione did, even without buying them.

"I remember the cover of Death Omens is indeed a black dog."

...Except for Glenn, that guy who was constantly collecting information—it looked like he still remembered.

"Then that means this divination pattern really has some basis, no wonder everyone would be so panicked."

After all, death seemed too distant and mysterious for young witches and wizards.

"To be honest, when I heard Professor McGonagall's explanation in class just now, I wasn't that worried anymore. But as soon as class ended, I heard Harry say he'd seen a big black dog recently, which made me feel terrible again."

Neville uncomfortably rubbed his stomach—he felt his stomach cramping.

His friend might have big trouble that could endanger his life recently. Neville was now too worried to eat.

"Harry really is disaster-prone. Perhaps Professor Trelawney's prophecy is also somewhat related to that escaped prisoner from Azkaban, Sirius Black, wanting to find trouble with Harry?"

Hermione whispered quietly to Glenn, who had been silent beside her.

Although it was speculation, saying it directly still felt somewhat impolite, so Hermione chose to speak to Glenn alone.

"You mean this prophecy was produced because of Sirius Black's threat to Harry Potter?"

"Mm-hmm!"

"That's not unreasonable... Then the defensive strength inside and outside Hogwarts needs to be quickly ramped up... Let me see if I can get the surveillance network inside Hogwarts fully installed in the next day or two. The monitoring for entrances and various secret passages was completed last night. The corridors outside your dormitories, the Gryffindor common room, and the entire eighth floor were also installed ahead of time. What's left are the remaining floors."

Yes, Glenn had been busy with these things last night. He hadn't forgotten the remaining work from the end of last semester.

"Do you need my help? With two people, the installation speed would be faster, and you wouldn't be too exhausted."

"...No..."

"Great, then it's happily decided! Tonight we'll pull an all-nighter together and strive to complete this task as soon as possible!"

Hermione covered Glenn's mouth, saying she was asking Glenn for an answer but actually she had no intention of listening to Glenn's response, since this guy would definitely refuse her and tell her to sleep well.

So it was better not to give him a chance to answer~

What do you call having someone wrapped around your finger!

"...Alright then, let's do it that way."
