Innovation Leads Development, Innovation Secures the Future

[At this week's inaugural Commissioner Mobilisation Conference, renowned figure in the wizarding world, Jane Yu, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on the spirit of innovation. Minister Bones, accompanied by the newly appointed Director Weasley, attended the meeting and expressed high praise for the event.
Miss Yu gave a profound exposition on the pivotal role of invention and creation throughout wizarding history. She cited the familiar Flying Broomstick as an example: in 962, the advent of the broomstick gave wizards the means of flight; yet, at that time, broomsticks were crude—unpolished ash shafts bound with a few hazel twigs, capable only of a single speed for flight, ascent, and descent, offering a truly dismal user experience. Over the centuries, constant improvements followed. In 1820, Elliot Smethwyck's invention of the Cushioning Charm dramatically enhanced broomstick performance. The founding of the Cleansweep Broom Company in 1926 and the Nimbus Racing Broom Company in 1967 ushered in the age of mass-produced, standardised racing brooms. Today, every wizarding household owns at least one Flying Broomstick. The rise of Quidditch, propelled by these developments, has long since become a cornerstone of wizarding entertainment.
Miss Yu proposed that the history of the flying broomstick is, at its heart, a chronicle of invention within wizarding society. Innovation, she argued, is the primary engine of progress. In the wizarding world, innovation is multifaceted—encompassing magical theory, practical magic, social systems, and the nurturing of talent. Among these, innovation in magical theory and practice is especially vital, profoundly shaping wizarding welfare and daily life. Miss Yu advocated for an innovation-driven strategy as the key to high-quality development. Building on the legacy of ancient runes, alchemy, and spellcraft, she called for the industrialisation and modernisation of foundational research, turning past theory into practical, modern applications, nurturing new growth points, and creating new momentum through the continual invention of magical artefacts.
In recent years, she has tirelessly put this strategy into practice. The epoch-making Magical Game Console—developed by her company—was itself born from the fusion of ancient runes, alchemy, and spellwork. In just three years, it has reached over 90% household penetration in the British wizarding community and is now exported to Europe, North America, and beyond. Nearly every family owns a Magical Game Console, greatly enriching the spiritual lives of wizards and fuelling the growth of magical gaming competitions, furthering the prosperity of wizarding society.
"We wholeheartedly endorse Miss Yu's innovation-driven strategy," said Minister Bones at the conference. "In times of peace, her persistent innovation led to the creation of the Magical Game Console—a revolutionary magical entertainment device that harnesses the most advanced ancient spells, alchemy, and runic magic, effectively modernising ancient magic. Now, as circumstances grow increasingly unstable, our struggle against the forces of darkness will be won by innovation—by equipping our Aurors and Commissioners with ever more advanced magical gear, we can give them greater protection and reduce needless sacrifice."
Miss Yu pointed out that, in times of crisis, innovation in magical artefacts is a crucial means of transforming the way wizards fight. With the wizarding world facing unprecedented threats, she argued, defending hard-won peace and maintaining the stability and prosperity of wizarding society demands increased investment in the research and development of magical equipment. Recently, her company has focused resources on creating new production lines for items such as Spell-Shielding Hats and Spell-Shielding Robes, aiming to supply both the Ministry and the wider wizarding public.
At the conference, she gave a live demonstration of the Spell-Shielding Hat's effectiveness against dark curses and poisonous hexes. While the test results remain confidential, those Commissioners who participated described the effects as "astonishing," "unparalleled," and "so good we wish we could patrol in them tomorrow"—more than capable of countering even the most advanced enemy spells.
Such remarkable success in innovation sparked a lively debate among the attending Commissioners about invention and the spirit of creativity.
"We need portable Dittany," said a young Commissioner. "Or rather, more efficient, non-liquid potions—something easy to carry and store. I've always wondered why Professor Snape insisted we brew everything into a liquid instead of making solids. Pills or capsules would be so much more practical than running around with sloshing glass bottles."
Minister Bones expressed her delight at the innovative spirit shown by the young Commissioners, noting that cultivating creative talent is not just Hogwarts' responsibility, but also a duty of the Ministry itself.
It is reported that the Ministry has placed a substantial order for five hundred Spell-Shielding Hats, and intends to sign an additional partnership agreement. The plan: to establish a joint research project, pooling funds and dispatching senior researchers to collaborate on the development of multi-functional protective wizarding robes, Swift-Step Wizarding Boots, Solid Anti-Curse Potions, Rapid Hemostatic Bandages, and other wartime essentials—providing robust support for Aurors in fulfilling their duties.
"We will unite all research talent," declared Minister Bones. "With Miss Yu as chief commander, we'll accelerate our research, tackle the toughest challenges, and focus our efforts on breakthroughs in multiple magical technologies."]
