Now that he had caught the Farfetch'd , Gabriel began training it.
In truth, the main reason he captured Farfetch'd was to provide Dratini with a training partner. He hoped that having a companion would ignite Dratini's fighting spirit during training.
However, he had underestimated Dratini. The past few days of comfort had turned it completely lazy—eating, sleeping, and repeating the cycle. It didn't even want to walk anymore. Dratini had become utterly useless.
Fortunately, the Dynamax energy contained in the Dragonite Reverse Scale within Dratini's body constantly tempered its physique. Even in its slothful state, its strength was gradually increasing. Otherwise, Gabriel would have already dragged it out for special training.
Looking at Dratini lying on its back, wearing sunglasses, basking in the sun, and munching on Pokéblocks, Gabriel could only shake his head helplessly. While Dratini had no interest in training, the training for Farfetch'd had to continue.
Farfetch'd was a relatively weak Pokémon, yet it had a fierce and competitive nature. The plant stalks it carried served as weapons, allowing it to fight like a swordsman.
With a base stat total of only 377, Farfetch'd wasn't particularly strong, making survival difficult. Additionally, it was one of the few Pokémon that could be eaten—and was said to taste delicious—leading to its dwindling numbers in the wild.
The limitation of its base stats restricted its growth. In Gabriel's memory, only the Galarian Farfetch'd had an evolution, meaning most ordinary Farfetch'd were simply kept in storage as collectibles.
But the Farfetch'd he caught was different. Not only did it have a strong will, but it also possessed an incredibly rare Psychic ability. This talent allowed it to see the weakest points of its opponents, attack with greater speed, and deal increased damage.
Gabriel had never expected such a weak Pokémon to have such an outstanding gift. However, without proper training, this Farfetch'd would never unlock the true potential of its ability.
Taking out its Poké Ball, Gabriel released Farfetch'd and officially began training.
"First things first—since you're my Pokémon now, I need to give you a name. What should I call you?"
Farfetch'd eagerly waited for its new name. However, after a long pause, Gabriel 's mind remained blank.
Crap. He was terrible at naming things. When he named Dratini, it was on a whim, and now he had no clue what to name Farfetch'd.
"How about… Kaka?"
"Quack?"
Even without translation, Gabriel understood what that meant. But since he really couldn't think of a better name, he just went with it.
Dratini glanced at Farfetch'd. With Gabriel 's poor naming skills, what good name could he possibly come up with? Of course, Dratini failed to realize that its own name had been chosen just as randomly.
"Alright, names aren't important. What matters now is training."
And so, Gabriel began Kaka's training.
The training regimen for Kaka was simple: two hours of meditation each day to hone its Psychic abilities, followed by physical endurance training.
The meditation technique came from Everette research notes. Meditation helped Psychic Pokémon enhance their abilities, making it a highly effective technique. Most Psychic-types had their own natural meditation methods.
However, since Kaka was a Normal-type Pokémon, it couldn't instinctively meditate like an Abra or other Psychic-types. Therefore, Gabriel had to teach it the move Calm Mind manually.
Aside from that, physical conditioning was crucial. Kaka was still too weak—even Dratini, before training, had better stamina than it. After all, Dratini was a Dragon-type Pokémon.
Without sufficient endurance, a Pokémon would be disadvantaged in both battle and speed. To address this, Gabriel designed a full-body workout plan to enhance Kaka's stamina.
The training was straightforward: running exercises and combat drills. Every day, Kaka had to practice slashing with its leek until it was completely exhausted.
Though the method was simple, this endurance training would rapidly improve Kaka's stamina. At the very least, the next time it faced Squirtle, it wouldn't tire out as quickly.
While training Kaka, Gabriel noticed a familiar figure in the distance.
"Elle? What's she doing here?"
After making sure Kaka was training on its own, Gabriel stealthily approached Elle.
He saw that she was training her Squirtle. Was she doing this because she felt embarrassed about losing to Farfetch'd and wanted to make up for it?
Watching her training style, Gabriel couldn't see much difference. It must have been her specialized Pokémon nurturing method.
Of course, Elle wasn't oblivious to Gabriel's spying. She had noticed him the moment he arrived. Although he thought he was hiding well, Elle was an experienced Pokémon trainer. There was no way Gabriel could evade her keen perception.
She had no intention of letting him eavesdrop any longer. Every trainer valued their unique training methods, and she wasn't about to let Gabriel steal hers—even if he was her young master.
"Garchomp , Earthquake . Go easy on him."
"Graaah!"
Garchomp grinned mischievously before stomping the ground. A surge of energy rippled through the earth, shaking the tree Gabriel was hiding in and causing him to fall.
Thankfully, Garchomp caught him just in time.
As soon as Gabriel saw Garchomp, he knew he was exposed. Awkwardly climbing off the Pokémon, he looked at Elle with a sheepish smile.
"How long have you known I was watching?"
"Since the moment you arrived."
Elle sighed, looking at Gabriel helplessly. She had no idea how to deal with him. She couldn't exactly scold him, could she?
"Young Master, do you know that spying on someone else's training is incredibly rude? If it were someone else, they wouldn't have let you off so easily."
Gabriel scratched his head awkwardly, laughing nervously.
"I was just curious when I saw you out here, so I came over to take a look."
Then, his expression suddenly brightened.
"Elle, you're training your Squirtle, right? How about a battle with Kaka after your training session?"
"Kaka?"
"That's the name I gave my Farfetch'd. What do you think?"
Seeing Gabriel's eager face, Elle hesitated. The reason she was training Squirtle in the first place was because she felt frustrated about losing to Farfetch'd. She knew how strong that Farfetch'd was, and if she wasn't careful, she had no chance of winning.
"…Fine. After training, we'll battle your Farfetch'd. That last defeat was just a fluke
