Even if he loses the tournament which the Queen wants, before Roman would make an impact in the kingdom, it'll be well over 20 years after his children are mature enough to fight, and given the fact that the demon lord still hadn't launched a full-scale attack, all three kingdoms should be able to hold on till then.
If so, why was the Queen rushing to have Roman? He could only draw one conclusion: political power.
