"Ooh ooh ooh! Yo-ba!!"
As Delia threw her PokeBall, a purple figure appeared atop a rock. It was her 'Aipom'—wearing a comical face with a sly grin—its two long tails gripping the rock firmly.
That's right—two long tails!
During this journey, Delia's Aipom had learned Double Hit, and afterward evolved into Ambipom. Its body had grown noticeably larger, its single tail split into two, and even two long tufts of hair now stuck out from its head, making it look ridiculously funny.
"A Normal-type Ambipom? Heh. Since this is a match, Miss Delia, don't say I'm bullying you. Come out—Blaziken! It's your turn to take the field!"
"Hu-sa!"
Across the field, Fang gave a brief apologetic bow upon seeing Delia send out Ambipom. Then he quickly threw his PokeBall, sending Blaziken onto the battlefield.
"Hm? Sending out Blaziken right away? Blaziken should be one of your strongest Pokémon, right? Aren't you worried about overexerting it this early?"
Delia frowned slightly, puzzled by Fang's choice.
"Heh. Blaziken is strong, yes—but it's not my main ace. So I'm not worried. Rather than worrying about me, Miss Delia, shouldn't you be worrying about yourself? Using a Normal-type Ambipom against my Fighting-type Blaziken—how exactly do you plan to deal with that?"
Fang wore a confident smile, completely unconcerned by her question.
"Both Pokémon are ready! Trainers, pay attention! First match—Ambipom versus Blaziken! Battle—begin!"
Before Delia could reply, the referee raised both flags and swiftly announced the start of the match.
The instant the signal was given, Fang's eyes sharpened and he launched his attack.
"Blaziken! Show them what you've got—use Double Kick!"
"Hu-sa!"
At the command, blazing flames burst from Blaziken's wrists and ankles. Its sharp claws slammed into the ground as it leapt high, delivering two powerful kicks midair toward Ambipom on the rock.
"Dodge it, Ambipom!"
"Ooh ooh ooh!"
Delia showed no panic at all. Calmly issuing her command, she watched as Ambipom braced itself with both tails and flipped backward in a nimble somersault, landing cleanly on another rock nearby.
Bang! Bang!!
Blaziken's kicks smashed heavily into the rock Ambipom had just vacated. With two crisp impact sounds, the rock shattered into several chunks, pebbles spraying in all directions.
"Hmph. Pretty nimble—but let's see how long you can keep dodging! Blaziken! Use Quick Attack!"
"Hu-sa!!"
Realizing Ambipom's agility made it hard to land a hit, Fang immediately changed tactics, ordering Blaziken to rely on speed.
But just as Blaziken surged forward, Delia's voice rang out again.
"Ambipom! Use Agility! Use the surrounding rocks to evade!"
"Ooh ooh ooh! Yo-ba!"
Pink psychic energy shimmered around Ambipom as it sprang into motion. It bounded rapidly from rock to rock, its purple form leaving multiple afterimages across the field. Even Blaziken froze in shock, momentarily forgetting to attack as it stared blankly ahead.
"Damn it! Blaziken! Use Flare Blitz!"
Seeing Ambipom's speed soar even higher, Fang's gaze turned sharp. He barked the command instantly.
"Hu-sa!!"
Blaziken nodded slightly toward Fang. In the next instant, raging flames engulfed its entire body. Wrapped in fire, it exploded forward at full speed, desperately chasing Ambipom.
Even though Flare Blitz boosted Blaziken's speed, the gap between them remained—just that tiny bit too far. After several failed pursuits where it couldn't even touch Ambipom's shadow, Blaziken finally stopped, panting heavily as it stood in place, exhausted.
And at that moment—
Delia's eyes lit up. She knew it was time to counterattack.
"That's enough, Ambipom! Use Sand Attack now!"
"Ooh ooh! Yo-ba!"
Ambipom abruptly halted atop a rock. Its two long tails plunged into the ground, violently flinging up huge clouds of dirt that splattered straight into Blaziken's face.
"Blaze! Blaziken!!"
Blinded by the sudden spray of sand, Blaziken roared in anger. Flames flared wildly from its wrists as its fists ignited, swinging furiously and blindly in every direction.
"Calm down, Blaziken! Don't waste your stamina!"
Seeing Blaziken lose control, Fang shouted anxiously.
"Now's the chance, Ambipom! Use Swift!"
Delia's next command came immediately.
"Ooh ooh ooh!!"
Ambipom planted its hands on the rock and began spinning rapidly. Its two long tails whirled like propellers, and in the next moment, countless glowing Swift stars burst forth—like a miniature galaxy—rushing straight toward Blaziken!
"Oh no—come back, Blaziken!"
With Blaziken's vision obstructed, there was no way it could dodge. Seeing the inevitable hit, Fang clenched his teeth and snapped open a PokeBall, recalling Blaziken in a red beam of light just in time, sparing it from being battered by Swift.
"Boom!!"
With no target left, the barrage of Swift crashed into the ground and river instead. A series of dull explosions rang out, stripping away an entire layer of terrain where Blaziken had been standing—proof that this attack was not only numerous, but also powerful.
"Contestant Fang has recalled Blaziken! Pokémon substitution!"
The referee raised his flag, halting the match briefly as Fang prepared to send out his next Pokémon.
"Hmph. Just fast, that's all. If we're talking speed—my next Pokémon won't lose to anyone. Come out!"
Fang's expression darkened slightly as he returned Blaziken, then forcefully hurled another PokeBall.
A burst of white light erupted—and a Pokémon resembling a cicada emerged, hovering in the air with transparent wings buzzing rapidly.
"Let them see what true speed really is—Ninjask!"
