Daniel secretly clenched his fists, and he quickly caught up with her, grabbing her by the wrist. In a low and rough voice, he said, "Do you realize you almost lost your life back there?"
"That's why I thanked you for saving me," Chantelle replied as she stared at him. "If you're expecting something in return, just say it. As long as it's within my ability, I'll do it."
His grip on her wrist tightened until it almost felt like her bone would snap. Even then, Chantelle didn't flinch or show any pain.
Daniel looked into her eyes, trying to read her thoughts. But her eyes were clear, giving nothing away.
With a defeated sigh, he finally let go of her wrist. "Leave this to me. Stay out of it."
"You can't expect me to do nothing when someone keeps trying to harm my children," Chantelle said, staring straight at Daniel without backing down.
It was reckless of her to act on her own today, but she couldn't just give up on finding the person behind the attacks on her children.
