Chapter 2 - Saved By a Hot Fox!

'I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!!'

She screamed mentally. The massive wolf's gleaming fangs descended toward her, it's breath hot and smelling like shit. Every instinct screamed for her to fight back.

But her body was so tiny, that one punch would feel like a feather on its snout.

Damn it. She knew she should have taken care of herself more. She would have rested more and not relied on instant noodles. But she just had to play the invincible doctor, thinking her body would endure forever.

Even though right now, she felt instant regret. Wu Mei was sure that if she went back to her life as a doctor she would do it again.

But now that she was in this new body, about to be torn apart like a discarded rag. She had to survive. That was the only thing that mattered.

She didn't care if she would return back to her life as a doctor, but one chance given to her would suffice for the lives she couldn't save in her past life.

"I don't want to die!" She wailed, squeezing her eyes shut but the sounds that came out were more like a pain filled yip.

Her small fox body trembled in fear. Bead-like tears poured down her cheeks.

Cupping her paws, she looked at the sky, 'Oh my good lord, mighty heavens! Send me a savior! A hero! A handsome dashing one, if possible!'

Silence greeted her.

She braced herself for pain but with the gust of wind she felt her body lifted into the air. Instead of being shredded by fangs, she felt her furry body pressed with a sharp object. The sharp, musky scent of fur engulfed her.

Wu Mei cracked open an eye, scanning her surroundings only to find herself in the jaws of a fox—a huge one.

The beast moved with the speed of a raging car, bolting through the trees as if the weight of a full-grown woman was nothing, only that Wu Mei was in her baby fox form.

But she still felt insulted, if she could remember correctly. In her past life, she used to be so chubby that her previous boyfriends always complained that she was all meat and no bones.

Only that her butt and boobs always make up for her chubby outlook.

For a moment, her heart stopped and she panicked. Did another wolf get to her? And she was in the process of being eaten?

'Did I just pray for a savior and get eaten instead? Is this some twisted joke?!

But then, recognition slammed into her. This fur… she had seen it before. In the jumbled memories of the body's previous owner, she knew exactly who this was. The housekeeper of the Wu House.

Keeper Huan.

"Run, run, run! Bite that stupid wolf if it catches up!" Wu Mei cheered in her wolf yip, her voice muffled from being clenched between sharp teeth. Keeper Huan must have understood her because he raced forward.

Soon there was no wolf anymore. What was left in sight were cold trees, the wolf nowhere to be found and probably wondering how its meal had disappeared so fast.

Wu Mei grinned internally. 'Hah! Take that, stupid mutt!'

Keeper Huan didn't stop until they reached the grand gates of the Wu House, a place so luxurious yet suffocating that the body's previous owner had despised it to her very core.

The place where the previous owner was dragged out and beaten till she couldn't sleep on her back for days. The place where no one would believe her if she even said a single word.

It was no wonder, the 'Wu Mei' accepted her fate when she was out in the wilds, but the question was, Why couldn't Wu Mei remember how their souls got switched? Was it because of the situation? Maybe the former owner of the body had a stroke?

Wu Mei would have to investigate that later when she gets settled into the house.

"Oi, you can drop me now!" She called out, flailing a little. Yet, Keeper Huan ignored her. She expected to be dumped at the entrance or at least be dragged to her supposed bedroom, but the fox had different plans.

Instead, it took her to a separate wing of the estate, a place she vaguely remembered but had never entered before.

Wu Mei frowned. "Where are you taking me? Hey, hey, wait—"

He didn't respond even if he heard her perfectly well, she was just yipping about. It was too late. The fox pushed open a set of ornate doors with its snout stepping inside. The room was dimly lit, filled with the faint scent of incense and something woodsy.

Wu Mei barely had time to process before she was rudely dropped on the plush bed.

'What kind of housekeeper kidnaps their master and takes them to their room?!' She demanded, sitting up. 'Is this some new employment benefit I wasn't informed about?'

Instead, the fox took a step back. And then—with a shimmer of golden light—it transformed.

Wu Mei's breath hitched.

The man standing before her was impossibly beautiful. His dark hair cascaded past his shoulders, his sharp, fox-like eyes glinting with an intelligence that felt ancient. His robes, though simple, clung to his broad shoulders, emphasizing his small but powerful frame.

He was the kind of handsome that made the heavens weep with jealousy. Wu Mei was practically drooling but she snapped out of it with just a little blink.

Wu Mei swallowed hard. 'Whew. I should pray for handsome saviors more often.'

Housekeeper Huan looked at her with furrowed brows, and thought she was going to say something, but he pressed his lips and then flapped the hem of his robe and then slammed his knees on the floor.

Wu Mei watched with wide eyes as the housekeeper slowly knelt before her. His head bowed low in submission.

"Miss Wu Mei!" He shouted on top of his lungs that Wu Mei's fur stood on end. "Your humble servant seeks punishment!"

Wu Mei blinked. Pointing her little paws at her. 'Me?' She glanced left to right, to check if there was anyone else present before settling her eyes on Keeper Huan once again.

For a moment, she considered playing dumb, pretending that he was talking to her, but then he started banging his head hard on the floor. Wu Mei got so scared that she fell to the floor to stop him.

'Hey, hey don't do that. Get up!' She urged, patting against his head. Keeper Huan was adamant.

"I will not stand up from here, until you have given me my punishment!"
