Chapter 93 - The Lab on the Mountain (3)

The sun could've exploded over the entire planet, plunging the entire world into darkness in eight minutes and twenty seconds and I would have absolutely no idea of it

It really was dark here.

Especially in these tunnels that seem to have everything that you could get your hands stuffed in.

Moving past a bunny plushy placed right besides a section comprised of skulls, I glanced at the architecture that was...

Creative I relented.

Moving past another sections composed of wooden beams, mortar and what looked like doors, I entered an incredibly expansive and large area.

They really stuffed everything they could think of in here.

It was honestly impressive how many doors they got their hands on.

Without a light to speak of, it seemed as if the darkness itself would swallow everything that it touched, magic, organic or otherwise, the darkness was just impenetrable

And that sound.

*Hissss Shaaaa Hisss Shaaaa

The Sound of something gargantuan breathing as if asleep.

'That definitely isn't terrifying at all, no siree.'

Quietly retracting my extended hand, the following flame instantly extinguished, the thick and heavy darkness rolling against my body like sharks attracted to blood.

Now I couldn't even see my hand even if it was placed right in front of me.

And honestly, it was better this way for everyone involved save my rapidly beating heart in my chest.

Since this place had been consumed by an unending stream of darkness of unimaginable proportions when I entered, it seemed safe to say that any slight bit of light was...

Unwise so to speak.

'And even if the Iron guards did a good job, I don't want to test how well they did it.'

My fingerless gloved hand ran across the cold stone placed right behind me as I creeped alongside the side of the wall.

'Besides.'

My heart thundered in my ears at the thought of fighting something entirely in this dark when I couldn't even tell what it looked like or what it could do.

There was the choice to make a big ass fire to see everything, but I wouldn't count on it being stable in the midst of battle.

'I could just read those experimental logs when I'm out of here, no need for the rush.'

I had a month to prepare for a possible end of the world after all.

Running my fingers along the wall, suddenly the wall that had silently stayed by my side disappeared with a moments notice and in its place, something slimy appeared.

'...' Closing my eyes which were basically useless in this darkness without light, I prayed to the five Gods I knew the names of before raising a small ring of fire around my eyes.

Like Glasses except magic.

It turns out flashing a light into eyes adjusted to absolute darkness wasn't the best idea.

Grimacing as I recalled the feeling of a flashbang, with a few blinks, the white spots in my vision disappeared like a breeze in the night, leaving behind nothing more than a chewed out section of wall, the stone bricks having been covered in slime.

It was better than what I had thought but still not as good as I would've liked.

*Drip

'...'

Seeing a bit of that green slime I had seen in the sewers drip down from above, a deep breath echoed through my chest as two pairs of orange eyes wearing flaming glasses looked upwards.

'...That's a mouth of a big ass monster all right.'

Seeing a purple ring of ebony white teeth glimmering in the dark as green slime continued to drip out like drool, the sound of sleep breathing was conspicuously silent

As if the gargantuan thing I sensed earlier had just woken from its sleep.

Looking upwards a slight bit more, the barest glimmer of an open eye the same size as me stared down at me.

'...Well this isn't good.'

Its black eye stared at me dangerously, more and more drool leaked out of its mouth, dripping onto the ground revealing how the green goo I had found all over the ancient Sewers came to be.

It seemed that I found the monster that the Iron Guards had warned me about in the big red font.

If all goes well, hopefully it would be as chained as ever.

'But seeing as there are bite marks on the wall behind me, it seems that I should start moving.'

Having noticed that I noticed it, a loud disorienting scream suddenly echoed the large room, the flame glasses on my face flickering dangerously before being blown out by the cold damp air blowing out of its mouth.

And before I could even mentally process the next series of events, my body instinctually dodged to the side, the sound of something loud crashing against the ground behind me.

They really should invest in better chains.

Snapping my head to the side where the monster lay, I was unpleasantly surprised to find out that they did invest in good enough chains.

To good chains in fact.

'What the hell is the point of a chain if its that long?!'

Forming several miniature balls of flame which darted across the Monster's black and purple eye in an attempt to induce Epilepsy. I so wanted to get my hands on whatever genius decided Chains the same length as the entire room was a good idea.

'They at least managed to make them durable at least.'

Seeing as the wall had suffered from the monster's extended mouth and not its enormous bulk, the thick chains of unknown make groaned noisily as they strained against the floating mass of Mouth and Eye.

'It's more eye than mouth actually.'

Absentmindedly thinking that as it jolted my way, I hurriedly backpedaled.

Activating most of the combat related runes on my body, vines formed a brief but albeit useless barrier in front of me as the green huling mass tore through them.

Flames on the other hand...

Flinching slightly as the bright light filled the room, a horrified and pain filled scream filled the air as I instinctively closed my eyes.

Crashing into the wall, when I opened them again, I was treated to the sight of a giant monster burning alive.

A new light source due to the fact its saliva seemed to be rather flammable.

*SCREEECCHHHHH

Grimacing at the horrid noise which filled the air like nails on the chalkboard, when my eyes had adjusted to the sight of a burning monstrosity, I hurriedly looked around as I recalled what it was I came here for.

Good news and Bad news greeted my brain.

The Good news? Well I found what looked like the Alchemist's notes.

The Bad news? For some God forsaken reason, the Alchemist chose to build it on a platform right above the monster I would now dub Conjunctivius.

'That Alchemist guy really couldn't have built it anywhere else huh?'

Glaring at the giant burning beast hurriedly trying to rid itself of the flames coating its body like oil on a gear I let out a sigh.

I guess if I don't want to die and waste the month away I have to go kill Conjunctivius huh?

And seeing as the set of stairs that made their way up to the platform had several bite sized chomps on them, I had a feeling that the chains were long enough to bite me if I were to choose to go that path.

'I really want to get my hands on the idiot who made these useless things.'

Pulling out a set of weapons from my inventory, I held them across my chest before running forwards.

'No time like the present to fix the problem though.'

Noticing my abrupt movements, despite the fact that it was currently burning alive, the beast made enough to grow several tentacles which it used to... detach from its body?

Wondering what the hell was the purpose of that, I soon found out the purpose as the tentacles which had detached from Conjunctivius's body soon gained a mind of their own.

A rather violent mind which desired nothing more than the death of the one attacking their master.

And seeing as I was the only one here, my blade soon found itself a job in the sushi business.

Particularly in the Calamari route.

Spinning around like a blender, despite feeling as if I should vomit, I held down the dizziness in my head by replacing it with one of flame.

Becoming beheaded once more, the hands holding the swords transformed into a hammer which turned Sushi into Paste.

Sending cascading shockwaves all around me that left most of the attacking tentacles battered and bruised, despite how fervently I wanted Conjunctivius to be unable to reach my position, the chains failed me.

'When I get my hands on that creator I swear to God.'

Mentally overlaying a face of the chain maker over Conjunctivius, I realised that I didn't even know what the Chain Maker even looked like and settled for beating Conjunctivius with a whip that tore several surface level gashes on their skin.

Tossing flames into the open wounds and causing it to screech even louder than before to the poor state of my ears, the sound of Tinnitus rung loud in my ear canal.

'Reminds me of the war gunfire.'

Recalling how I could hear jack in the midst of the battlefield all the while my ears tried to recover from the neighboring mouth screaming in my head, I threw blocks of wood into its mouth as it tried to close around me.

Vine rune activating, a large ball like structure formed around me preventing the closing of its mouth and the shredding of my body.

And seeing as the teeth could undulate like waves and were currently shredding through the makeshift ball I had within its mouth, its only fair I returned the favor no?

'I wonder how flammable its insides were.'

Transforming the rest of the wooden ball into spikes that soon flew outwards in an explosion, the sudden gap left by the ball swiftly closed around me.

But not swiftly enough as it slowed due to the pain assaulting its gums.

And that small window of time was enough for me to gift Conjunctivius something of my own make.

"Tell me how fire tastes like later yeah?"

I soon received the answer as smoke began to billow out of the Beast's mouth in dark as pitch waves.

It seemed that the equivalent of five different grenades going off in their stomach didn't agree with Conjunctivius.

Letting out that very same horrid scream which was drowned out slightly by the tinnitus ringing in my ears, my hand slipped into the inventory before realizing that I had no blocks of wood left.

'That... seems rather unfortunate.'

Grabbing the Kunai instead as a vengeful glance was directed at me, I felt a chill from the very bottom of my spine to its top as I pulled myself through the air.

For good reason as well as a laser as big as my torso suddenly appeared piercing through the air.

I really doubt that I would survive with a torso sized hole on my torso.

That's my whole torso we're talking about.

Turning to look at Conjunctivius who now glared at me with bloodshot eyes and a smoking mouth, I had a distinct feeling that the Laser wasn't a one off thing as its eye glowed menacingly.

Watching tentacle like growths fall from its body as electricity crackled on its body, I wondered if getting that Notebook was worth all of this.

'...'

'Yeah let's do it.'
