"Poisoned by who?" A chill ran down my spine, the question hanging in the air like a dark cloud.
"Heather," he replied, and a wave of anger surged through me, mingling painfully with the sorrow that clung to my heart like a heavy shroud.
I wasn't surprised by the name, but my thoughts quickly shifted to my baby—the fragile life I had fought so hard to protect. "Is my baby all right?" I asked, instinctively placing my hand over my belly. Fear gripped me tightly, squeezing my heart as memories of the rogue attack flashed through my mind. I had barely clung to hope in the chaos that followed.
"The baby is fine for now, Aurora," Dad reassured me, and a wave of relief washed over me, bringing with it a fragile sense of safety. My heartbeat began to steady, the initial panic subsiding, but the weight of what had happened still loomed over me like a storm cloud.
