Chapter 53 - Kinglanding Side Quest 2 *

"The night was productive." Aegon whispered as he once again stood at the window of his room, looking at the commoners begin their day.

Ten new spies were created last night; throughout the coming days, they will depart from Kingslanding, heading for all the other kingdoms. Starting today, they will leave until only one is left in Kingslanding. I will create twenty more before leaving Westeros.'

Aegon had already given direct orders to this first batch of spies; their only job was to enter the seven kingdoms and gather information. For the second batch, Aegon planned to strengthen them more and let them enter the key armies that would soon form for the War of Five Kings.

He hoped that with their enhanced abilities, they would catch the eyes of the lords in charge and quickly be brought to their sides. By doing this, he would have loyal people at the sides of his enemies that he could use to undermine or kill them when the time came.

" They won't even notice, after all, who would send men of that caliber to be spies?" Aegon said as a smile appeared on his face.

As he went over his plans, the door to the room opened and closed.

" Khal Aegon, we were unable to send out the spies this morning." Baqo says.

"Oh, what happened?" Aegon asked as he turned to face him.

"It seems the city is under lockdown, the city guard is blocking the gates, and no ships are being allowed to leave. On the way, I heard the golden cloaks I passed whispering, It seems the king is dead." Says Baqo.

"Finally, the fat king really can't do anything right; his death is the best thing he's done."

" As for the spies, it's fine, they won't keep the city on lockdown past today. By tomorrow, the gates will be open once more; this right now is just for appearances." Aegon says as his eyes shone.

" Baqo, inform Rahko to tell the spies they leave tomorrow, all of them, then tell him to return to my side. The time for action is fast approaching."

" As you wish." Baqo responds as he quickly leaves the room to carry out Aegon's orders.

" Now then, if I have my timing down right, you must be limping through the red keep, letter in hand, soldiers and snakes behind you, foolish enough to walk right into a trap." Aegon says, looking into the distance at the red keep.

RED KEEP

"All hail his grace Joffrey of houses Baratheon and Lannister, first of his name, king of the Andal and the first men, lord of the seven kingdoms and protector of the realm." The voice echoed as Lord Eddard Stark walked in, followed by Littlefinger, master of Whispers Varys, and a group of soldiers.

He walked forward, stopping in front of the steps to the iron throne.

Knights stood in front of the steps as Joffrey Baratheon sat on the throne and his mother, Cersei, sat in a smaller chair to the side of him.

The tension was high, Ned Stark looked as his group was standing in the middle of two rows of guards with spears.

The leaders of the two groups looked at each other. Silence enveloped the room until Joffrey spoke.

"I command the council to make all necessary arrangements for my coronation. I wish to be crowned within the fortnight."

Ned listened as a small smirk appeared on his face.

"Ser Barristan, I believe no man here would question your honor." Ned says as he stretches out his hand with the letter in it.

Ser Barristan walked forward and took it, opening it and began to read it aloud.

"Lord Eddard Stark is hereby named protector of the realm to rule as regent until the heir has come of age." He turned and looked at Cersei Lannister, who quickly got up.

" May I see that Lester Ser Barristan?" She asked and approached as he handed it over.

She took the letter and looked at it.

" Is this meant to be your shield, lord Stark? A piece of paper." She says as she rips it, dropping it to the floor.

Ser Barristan looked on, shocked, and couldn't help but speak.

" That was the king's words."

" We have a new king now." Was the response she gave him as he said nothing else.

She carried on.

" Lord Eddard, when we last spoke, you offered me some counsel; allow me to return the courtesy."

"Bend the knee, my lord, bend the knee and swear loyalty to my son, and we shall allow you to live out your days in the grey waste you call home."

" Your son has no claim to the throne." Ned responded.

"Lair!!" Joffrey shouted.

"You condemn yourself with your own mouth, lord Stark. Ser Barristan, seize this traitor." Cersei says.

Ser Barristan on command approaches Ned with no sword in hand, but two soldiers from behind Ned Stark marched forward to stop him with their hands on their sword hilts.

" Ser Barristan is a good man, a loyal man, do him no harm." Ned says.

If Aegon were here, he would only shake his head at lord Stark's foolishness.

As things continued to play out in the red keep, heading in the same direction as the known cannon Aegon was in his room as Baqo and Rahko had returned.

Aegon looked at his status page floating in front of him.

His status page had changed a bit. After fighting in Pentos, he had more points, but after upgrading his swordsmanship, archery, warging, and all his magic proficiency, and then adding five thousand points to his blood stat and upgrading his illusion magic, he had less than five thousand points left.

The illusion magic had appeared when he added five thousand points to his blood the day after the battle in Pentos. Its uses were not able to be used on a large scale, like a city, but to change his appearance and make himself invisible was enough.

Aegon looked at Baqo and Rahko and spoke.

" Our target must have already been apprehended. Tonight, we will capture more people and create another batch of spies before we head into the Red Keep. When we do enter the Red keep you two will locate Sansa Stark and Arya Stark."

" Then wait for my signal, if things go well, you save them, if not, leave them and return to the inn, then we will leave Kingslanding."
