Aria's POV
The silence between us was comfortable, a stark contrast to the tension that had filled the room earlier.
I was alone with Kael, the others had trickled out after the meeting concluded. Kael had instructed Lord Commander Cormac to rally the soldiers that remained in the castle and station them by round the veil. They were to be the first line of defense for when the veil falls.
I pray it wouldn't come to that.
Kael's warm breath on my skin pulled me back to the present, his chest rose and fell with a gentle rhythm as he breathed. His arm was wrapped tightly around my waist, holding me close, which prevented all my previous attempts at escaping.
"Kael" I called out annoyed.
"Kael," I repeated, a bit louder this time, when he refused to answer.
Instead of answering, he hummed, his breath tickling my skin.
