The following morning, Kael woke up to someone knocking on his door.
He opened his eyes, took a few seconds to remember where he was, and looked toward the window. Gray light filtered through the curtains, enough to show that it was still early.
The knocking came again.
Kael got up and opened the door.
The nameless man stood on the other side, already dressed to go out.
"It's snowing."
Kael looked at him.
"That happened yesterday."
"More."
Kael rested a hand against the doorframe.
"What time is it?"
The man checked the small watch attached to his bag.
"Six twenty-three."
Kael closed his eyes.
"You came to wake me up at six twenty-three because it's snowing."
"Yes."
"Is Seraphine awake?"
"No."
"Sylphie?"
"No."
"Then why me?"
The man thought about it.
"Your room was the closest."
Kael looked at Seraphine's door, directly across the corridor.
Then back at him.
The man noticed.
"Second closest."
Kael began closing the door.
"Wait."
"What?"
"Want to see?"
