Isolde's footsteps were the only ones echoing through the hallway as she nervously made her way to the Alpha's study. Her fingers twisted together, an attempt to calm her nerves.
She was returning from the kitchen where she had dropped off Selene's dinner tray, but before that, she had spent a long time in Selene's room.
The memory was still fresh, replaying in her head and leaving her conflicted. She had been feeling this way since Selene opened up about her deepest desire: to know her mother. Amidst her guilt, Isolde had agreed to join her on the journey, feeling elated that Selene trusted her enough to share such a secret. That trust made the deception all the more painful for her.
Now, standing before the large doors of Alpha Zephyr's study, she fought back the guilt that threatened to overwhelm her.
It had taken a lot for her to come here this evening and till now she was not sure of how to handle this meeting that was about to take place.
