Selene wanted to tell them they were wrong, no matter what they thought. She knew they believed she was the guide—it was the only reason she had been able to blackmail Zephyr. But it didn't change the fact that she was cursed. How could a cursed person be a prophesied guide? How could that work?
It made no sense to her.
"We are certain you are the guide," Ralph said. "What we should be worried about is trusting you."
Selene decided to let it go. She met his gaze steadily.
"I don't think you will ever trust me, and that is understandable. I am the daughter of your enemy, after all," she pointed out in a blunt, bitter tone, as if simply stating a fact. "I have no wolf, so I can't give you a Wolf's word. But I can give you an honest promise from the depth of my soul. I have no interest in betraying you. I just want to do whatever I need to do so I can go my own way."
Her voice was soft, yet it was so bold and clear. Then she went on.
