Chapter 26 - A rainy walk home

The rest of the day was pretty peaceful for Alfred, Justin was nowhere to be seen and the three guys who troubled him stayed away from him. Ilya avoided him as well. He wrote his exams in peace and everything was going well for him, everything was okay except one thing.

Shiro sat beside him during the exams but now, his seat was empty.

There were still speculations and whispers about the murder of the professor, but it wasn't really an important or shocking news since a lot of lecturers and professors had lost their lives in a similar manner.

After discussing with the girls for a while, he discovered that they were only best friends and nothing more. Of course, the system still laughed at him, and he didnt believe it himself

"At this point, I'm convinced that the system is actually a human in my head. The moon is black, so I don't see how that's not possible anymore." He mumbled to himself.

Alfred decided to go back home since he was already done with all the papers he had for the day and he pretty much had nothing to do in school.

Scarlet had invited him for dinner but he had politely turned it down, not because he didn't appreciate the offer but because he was still wary of her.

"I wonder how Zeus is doing now.."

He stepped outside and began walking home but not less than a few minutes later, it started raining heavily.

"I wonder if getting drenched in the rain will affect the system." He thought aloud, looking for a place to hide.

There was no building appropriate for hiding under the rain as he was on the highway since he had decided to walk home.

He could hear a group of people shouting behind him, and when he looked back, he counted nine people. They all wore black clothing, a silver handkerchief tied around their wrists.

"They're a gang!" He muttered, immediately facing his front. He began walking fast, almost running even.

"Hey!" One of them yelled at him.

"Don't look back, you do not need to reply them. Afterall, its raining and you can blame it all on the rain." Alfred spoke to himself, doing his best not to turn back.

"Hey!!" They called again.

"Don't look back...."

He felt a hand touching his shoulder, and he immediately fell to the floor.

He was scared of meeting any gangs because of the history he had with gangs.

His father owed a gangster boss a huge amount of money, and to pay off the debt, he had momentarily joined their gang as that was the only way to pay the debt. While going about the shady business gangs involved themselves in, he had crossed other gangs. He had directly sabotaged some of their operations to give the gang he worked for a higher chance of receiving some deals, and each time he'd been caught, he escaped death only by a hair's breadth.

"We were calling you..." The person who touched him said, frowing a little bit.

"Why'd you hit the lad, eh?" Another person shouted.

"I swear, I didn't touch him...well, I didn't hit him at least."

Alfred noticed that he wore a headband with a dragon head. The trademark of the Destro gang.

'Why is the Destro gang here?' He thought to himself.

The others soon joined and helped him stand.

"Why were you running away from us eh, lad? Do we really seem that scary?" A man on the bigger side asked, chuckling to himself but he got no reply from Alfred.

'They are dressed like the Destro gang, but I don't know any of them.' His heart skipped a beat.

"Not replying us, eh?" The big man asked again.

'I can tell from the way they act that they're not the Destro gang. A destro gang member would've known who I was and tried to harrass me into paying for their drinks or something..' Alfred thought to himself.

"Why're you walking in this rain all alone?" The big man questioned, shaking his head slowly.

"What the f**k!" Alfred blurted before immediately covering his mouth with his hands. You couldn't really blame him for the reaction he had because no sane person would concern themselves with another person getting drenched in the rain. In the old world, maybe, but in the new world, there was no chance of that happening.

The big man laughed out loud and was soon joined by the people with him. "The first words you say to me are curse words, you really are something, lad."

Alfred's face heated up in embarrassment. He hadn't meant to do that but he couldn't help himself. It was just too unbelievable.

'Strange things have been happening to me all through today.' He thought to himself.

The big man slapped Alfred's back with a throaty chuckle. "Young lads these days eh?"

Alfred thought the man was high on laughing gas but said nothing about it, instead he just apologized.

"I'm sorry for cursing at you, sir. I was just flustered. "

Of course, he didn't give an apology because he actually felt sorry, he only gave one so he could quietly run away from them. Impersonation was a big crime on the dark side yet these people were impersonating the Destro gang in broad day light. Literally. If he were to be seen with them, the trouble he would be in wouldn't be a small matter. Cold shivers went down his spine as he imagined a situation if he were found out.

"No hard feelings, boy. The world is a dangerous place, way more dangerous than it used to be."

Alfred gave a nod, getting ready to leave.

"So, on that account, you're going to come with us in our car. It'll arrive very soon." The man said with a big smile.

Alfred had a flabbergasted look on his face. There was no way he just said that after what he said.

A black SUV could be seen at a distance, it was an Audi Q8, and the big man waved at the car to which it stopped directly in front of them.

"Get in, kid. The rain is about to get heavier."

Alfred rolled his eyes subtly, 'these people are fools if they think I'll go with them. Impersonating strangers."

******

"Coming to you now, the weather forecast. It has been detected that an acidic rain wil begin in the next five minutes. Everyone is advised to seek shelter or stay at home. The reason for this rain is yet to be discovered so, stay safe."

The television was switched off and the man turned to Alfred with a smile. "Boy, arent you glad you decided to come with me?"

His face had been stuck in a frown for the past ten minutes straight.

'I followed them.'
