Chapter 7 - For i don't know the difference

The echoes of his lost self continued to howl even in his unconscious. Distant memories, or just dreams. He made no difference between the two.

Soon he woke up on a slightly darker, but peaceful level. It was blue, a lot in fact, but he didn't mind. He stood up and walked off as if nothing had happened, not even questioning his dreams.

Hours upon hours of walking and then he stumbled upon something curious in one of the darker areas - a hanging skeleton. - "You seem to be in quite the situation..."

The skeleton said nothing.

The kid burst out into laughter, but that laughter came to a stop once he looked behind the tree and saw more of those skeletons.

"At least you ain't alone." - he added, tapping the skeleton on the shoulder which made it tear from the tree and fall.

He proceeded, because when he looked back he saw more of the same. The backrooms tended to be like a weird dream, one time there's something, you turn your eyes away from it and suddenly it has slipped right from right underneath you.

The air that passed whistled, giving life to the whispers of those who had fallen and were now hanging.

Soon he spotted a woman in the distance, she was strangely beautiful, even behind that face paint.

How her long orange dress flew with the wind, it seemed hypnotic.

But just as he saw her as beautiful, he saw nothing that interesting. He simply stood there and looked at her back as she left.

He figured it's not worth even going after her, and so that's what happened, instead of going after her, he turned his own back and left, but when he did so, roots emerged from the ground and wrapped around his legs. He didn't flinch, instead he gave his typical for his state of mind look - absolute emptiness.

Looking down at the roots he tried pulling away, but nothing happened, then he saw it, the glitching effect that passively appeared and disappeared from his body. Slowly the roots pulled him down, but then he thought to himself about the book and it's content. The abilities in particular, since his appearance already proved something, that that book was about him.

He then found the answer he needed, and without much of a struggle, he just climbed out, carving stairs that were never there, but they were for him.

Just as he was about to fully step out a voice, low and commanding called out: "What a curious thing you are. No ordinary wanderer i presume?"

As he looked back he saw a tall skeletal figure in a tattered black dress. He didn't say anything, he just looked at her with no thoughts going through his head. He didn't like her presence, but in his state of mind he couldn't do much, but not care, not compare.

He just bounced his shoulders and turned around, before walking away, bringing great annoyance to the skeleton that burned holes through his back with her eyes. Then she said: "I am talking to you."

"Ok." - He replied nearly instantly, but he didn't turn around, he simply continued walking away.

Suddenly roots emerged from from the ground and the branches of the trees twisted to capture him by the arms and legs. When he found himself in this position he was forcefully turned around.

"Truly, a pitiful creature you are. A lowly creature. No manners when speaking to a woman of my caliber."

"What truly defies me of being low? What is the difference, for i don't know such?"

This intelligent talk took her by surprise, but it wasn't just any intelligent talk, in fact it wasn't really that hardly thought at, it simply came out.

She didn't know what to say. It would be easier if she just killed him in that instance, but when she manipulated the branches and roots to tear him limb from limb, he phased through it, like there was no such thing. "What are you?" - she spat, shocked by his doings.

"I am." - He replied calmly, no hatred, no love, when she looked at him she saw nothingness, an empty vastness with great potential. "I don't like it here..." - He said tilting his head as he stared at her, almost bored, but no it was indeed dislike over her domain.

He straightened up and moved along, leaving her behind, the scenery slowly transitioned into another forest, but the transition didn't happen fully, he blacked out and fell face first into the ground.
