Chapter 31 - Dosage

The dock shines as the afternoon sunsets behind it and East Gearen City. Ava walks up to a chubby blonde man, her breast freely pronouncing the pep in every step.  It took a month for me and Keta to finally find something to agree on; bras are restricting, very restricting.

Ava's foot cracks a twig, catching the chubby man's attention. "Please tell me you're here because of the help request! I think they're about ready to bounce by now! Damn Gym Leaders" He whispers under his breath, before turning to open the door.

I'm starting to like that everyone thinks I have normal hearing or just straight deaf, it's kinda fun to mess with them.  Ava bows as the man starts leading the way, her cheeks lightly flushed at the thought of messing with her awaiting assailants.

"Right this way." The man lures Ava through the dark. "Walk silently, I don't think they heard us. There should be some stairs coming up." The voice slowly fades away, leaving Ava in the dark.

… I don't hear anyone moving, no small movements… The lights flash to life. "Fuckers! At least say you're turning on the lights!"

The chubby man chuckles. "Sorry not sorry! Aye while you're here, why not try to get back the cargo we stole!" He turns his head to whisper to himself. "If you can, weak ass East Gearen pleb. Why would Team Xen pay so much for something so easy."

Xen… Ava's held smile swiftly swapped for a sour scowl as their first foot stumps onto the electrified panel, one after the other a course of electricity is pushed through Ava's body, making their already frayed hair slowly spike upwards.

"You are brash aren'tcha?" The thief sits down on the chair behind him, while Ava finishes marching on the electrified panels. "I must say I didn't believe whatever that purple haired Squeak Box was trying to say but I can see why she thought ambushing you wouldn't work! "

Ava tries to take another step but couldn't, her body flinches in place as it shivers. How the hell am I paralyzed? The lights dim with the humming of machines noticeably quieter.

The thief looks at Ava with a smug grin and an arched eye brow. "What'd you think would happen? You had twelve hundred, unprotected, volts running through your body with each step. Honestly you should have died before you placed your first step."

A crackly buzz comes from behind a machine. "Electrike! Use Thunder Fang!"

"Seviper, Bulldoze!" Bits of the panels fly into the air and hit right against the charging Electike. "I'll have you know I'm a damn fine Gym Leader!" Venam skips across the safe looking remains of the floor.

Ava lets out a small burst of lightning before hopping in place.

"Oh, Fuck this!" The chubby man runs off behind a random machine. "Scatter!" These words initiate a torrent of footsteps and shuffling shadows; like rats dispersing at the flip of a switch

After a few minutes pass Ava and Venam finally put their guard down before turning to face each other. Ava looks at Venam's tired Auburn eyes as the lights flicker above them. Well, I guess we've both had better days… It's been 4 months since Melia passed and I don't know what I should do.

"What were you doing?" Venam breaks the eerily serene silence with poorly concealed contempt in her tone.

"I-"

Venam swiftly interrupts Ava, with a curled fist in her face and another behind Venam. "That was stupid! The request asked for a GYM LEADER, YOU CAN'T Just… you can't just walk into a dark warehouse and expect everything to go peachy!" With an agitated grunt Venam storms off, taking a different route than the one she took earlier.

Ava silently walks out of the warehouse, her fist spasming by her side. I'm not Melia; I can handle myself, you don't have to worry about me dying anytime soon.

"Don't fray your mane little Crane." Karen says from a window in the warehouse before leaping out and tactical landing beside Ava.

"I'm a crane now?" Ava thrusts her first behind her Gi as she watches Karen gracefully rise to her feet. Woman is athletic.

"Too many names fit you best; despite you being a bit of a mess." Karen dances around Ava, her eyes inspecting every part of the trainer.

Ava stands firm as the curious woman circles her; like a cat checking on an injured bird. "So Dr.Seuss, is there a reason for this little drop by or did you come just to insult?"

Karen's feline-like face pops up in front of Ava with a whimsical smile. "You want to know more of me, follow through on finding your discovery." Her innocent feline smile takes a foreboding aura as her head tilts. "This is not a request, you will join me on my behest"

With her demand, Karen struts towards East Gearen's access point: a subconscious sway in her hips and bob of her head as a Flectinder and Honecrow peck each other over her head. The furious sound of flailing wings is drowned by the deafening cry of a Spearow; that only grows louder as Karen and Ava reach the fountain in East Gearen Park.

Oh FUCK THIS BASTARD! Ava chucks a rock at the wailing bird; missing but scarring it off at least. "How did you know I was here for the library anyhow?" Ava's brow arches under the shade.

Karen holds the green monograph with a sense of elegance. "Stumbled upon a young hiker I did; striked me more of a meecher, he wondered where the library hid-" She turns her brown eyes towards Ava, letting a small gap at the center of the fountain unfurl behind her. "-and identified the would be breacher."

The young trainer watches with wide eyes as Karen's short terracotta hair blows with the sudden cool air from The Hidden Library. The centuries old smell of dust and old books waft through the air, intermeddling with Ava's nose.

Karen's cheeky smile widens to an unnerving degree before the library as it slowly opens, then abruptly shuts; shooting Karen into Ava with enough force to make them hit the guard rails. "NO! NEIN! NULLÜS!" Karen reaches for her book hastily flipping through its pages before simply stopping.

Ava turns her head and coughs. "I guess neither of us are the chosen one."

Karen relaxes into Ava's robust body and sighs. "Nonobligatory thanks for coming here despite my incumbent behavior."

"Aye, wanna talk about it?"

"Not today Little Crane. Just a diminutive regression." Karen tries to get up but Ava wraps her arms around the woman and brings her in. "no, no crying. No need to cry."

I guess the Library is more important for her than me or that hiker. tKaren rest in Ava's hold with sporadic shallow breaths.

Karen speaks between her ragged breaths "Cry on my shoulder. No, don't cry on my shoulder. Go ahead let it out. No you'll ruin my battle dress. Come on-"
