Chapter 96 - What Will Happen In The Future?

Barry continues his search inside the sphere, and he finally comes across what he is looking for.

A super-sized gorilla scribbling something on the wall. Barry stops moving, but in Flash Time. He doesn't want to get noticed by this giant gorilla yet.

The reason Barry is here is to see if there are any signs of Ronnie or Woodward. They both came down here. One out of fear, and the other willingly.

And one of the reasons for their possible disappearance is Grodd. Barry can understand if Grodd is able to take down Woodward, but Ronnie is a different case.

He is a burning man, and no matter how tough Grodd is, it doesn't stand a chance against someone who can radiate heat that is over a thousand degrees Celsius. Grodd would be reduced to ash.

Barry looks around, trying to find something, but he has no luck. Grodd seems to be alone here, waiting for Dr. Wells, who Grodd considers his father.

Barry returns to S.T.A.R. Labs and finds Caitlin still trying to look for Ronnie. "Did you find him?" Caitlin asks as she sees Barry's back. "No, there is no sign of him down there," Barry says.

He also didn't bother revealing that he saw a giant Gorilla who has made the sewers his home, as now is not the time to concern the team with even more Meta problems.

If Grodd does become a problem, Barry will handle it swiftly, as every other Meta Human he has encountered till now. He is the Flash; he barely has any rivals.

"Continue looking into it, I need to head back to CCPD," Barry bids his farewell and leaves.

Back at the CCPD, officers have become busier as Meta Human cases that they couldn't explain in the past started being reopened, and everyone is getting busier.

Barry's table, too, is stacked with case files, as they need to be reassessed by him. Barry might be the Flash, but doing hero work doesn't pay the bills. He needs to work.

Luckily, super speed is a hell of a superpower. No matter how much extra work he has, he can always finish it before the time. When you can move and perceive everything faster than the speed of light, there is no physical challenge that provides even a little bit of hindrance.

Barry drowns himself in work and occasionally runs out to do Flash work when he is needed.

Barry also had to talk to Dr. Tina McGee, the owner of Mercury Labs, the one that Dr. Wells, in his super villain attire, raided and caused a scene by killing two people.

Barry knew that Dr. Wells would have had no problem stealing the Tachyon Device; he is literally the Reverse Flash, the fastest man right after Barry.

All this charade he is putting on is just to get Joe off his back while also getting his hands on the Tachyon Device to give himself a boost in his speed as he recovers from the mistake he made by killing Barry's mother. Two birds with one stone.

Barry goes along with everything, as he doesn't want his team to realize who Dr. Wells really is. If it were anyone else, Barry wouldn't have been so cautious, but this is another speedster, and a very bitter and evil one.

Barry has no idea the lengths Dr. Wells will go when he realizes that his identity is exposed.

Barry knows he is faster, but he is not going to take chances against another speedster.

Dr. Tina McGee seems very adamant about handing over the Tachyon Device to to police, especially with Dr. Wells assisting them. It's very clear that the woman doesn't trust Dr. Wells, and she is very smart to think so.

Barry didn't pester Dr. McGee into handing over the device to them because he knows it won't be hard for Dr. Wells to do something shady and force Dr. McGee into handing over the device to them.

Barry spends the rest of the day clearing all the cases piled up on his desk because he believes Dr. Wells is going to make his move soon. He doesn't want anything to divert his attention when dealing with the Reverse Flash.

As Barry sits in his lab, double-checking the last case file, Iris walks in and informs him about her moving in with Eddie, and he congratulates her.

She seems happy about finally taking the next big step in their relationship. Barry has no idea how Iris's future is going to end up.

With him having no interest in her, Barry wonders what would happen to Eobard Thawne, the real identity of the Reverse Flash and Dr. Wells. Will he cease to exist now that Eddie might actually marry Iris and spend the rest of his life with him? Or will fate intervene and find a way to create Eobard again?

Barry is curious.

There are a few things that happen, no matter which timeline. That famous murder that happens in an alley of Gotham City, the Destruction of Krypton, and in Barry's case, the explosion of the Particle Accelerator.

Is the existence of Eobard Thawne a constant, or can Barry's simple decision not to be in love with Iris West change the future and erase Eobard Thawne from existence?

Well, Barry doesn't know, and time is a very fragile concept, and nothing makes sense when people like him mess with time.
