Astraea's POV
I couldn't keep the worry out of my voice no matter how hard I tried. "How in the world am I supposed to preserve Zephyra's humanity?" The words tumbled out, coming out a little bit harsher than I intended. "Isn't that dangerous? Something that can't just be done by anyone?"
Lysandra's eyes narrowed, her lips curving into a displeased frown that made me feel as though I'd just insulted her directly.
"Do you take me for just anyone?" she asked, her tone clipped and brimming with irritation.
I bit the inside of my cheek, forcing myself not to snap back. She wasn't wrong about not being just anyone, but still, the thought of anyone tampering with what made Zephyra human twisted my stomach.
Lysandra's tone softened slightly, though not enough to hide the edge in it. "You came to me for help, and this is the only help I can give you. It means taking the risk of pulling out some of her humanity and keeping it aside. There is no other way."
