Chapter 89 - Squeezing the cloth

Astraea's POV

I should have asked what the price was. That was the logical next step, wasn't it? If her son could alter the future, then I should have been demanding to know what I'd need to give, what I'd have to sacrifice, to save Zephyra's life.

But instead, what slipped out of my mouth surprised even me.

"How about we stop circling around games and talk about why I'm really here," I said, my voice low but firm. "I only want to know how to stop my human bride from losing her humanity."

Lysandra didn't even blink. Her lips curved, not into a smile, but into something that made my stomach twist. "What use is stopping her from losing her humanity," she said slowly, "when her life is already in danger?"

My fists clenched in my lap. I hated how calm she sounded, like she already knew the ending to a story I hadn't even finished living.
