Chapter 324 - Journey to the golden City(17)

Countless little monsters writhed under the veil that had always been placed around this chain, ripping it apart, being glowing as red as liquid rock and made of the very same material as they glowed as, plated with dark metal to make them look violent crawled their ways out of the view openings as saint Lawrence stretched his hands out and had a crazed smile atop his face, raising the instrument of destruction he wielded even further, grabbing it with two hands and bringing it down all over again.

The shockwave of destruction was sent out and made the endless chain rattle to an insane degree, not because of physics, not because the chain was volatile, but because the very islands it had been connected to had been severely damaged, to a degree that the grin he had wielded left for a bit of nervousness for a mere second since he'd most likely have to explain to lady Crisis why a part of the chains connecting islands were gone, but quickly giving way for a whole other face once more.

A wall of magma rose from under the endless chain, making even the seemingly indestructible metal all of them had just landed on with their butts glow in heat, their bodies trying to resist as well as they could but being damaged nonetheless, Ohrren the most due to his size and lesser defence, Akrisen the least since he sat atop Ohrren and was protected.

Luckily that pain was over as the shockwave returned, flicking them a bit again and knocking them over, turning into a red point between the two blades of the axe the self-suggested saint was wielding, the wall of magma now moving a bit more, countless others following suit, and something greater than the five of them had ever expected arrived from the depths of under the light.

It was bigger than they could have ever imagined, the expanses of it being thousands of miles wide but to the three it was simply a bridge leading up to a ridiculously big fortress, walls fifty feet high and a dozen thick, the ceiling of the entire thing making each and every single structure on the back of the unimaginable creature look like a square, extending outwards like towers.

Truly, one could not describe the fear they felt as they realized that this being, about three thousand miles wide, was alive, many thousand tentacles, each a mile or more thick and extending for longer than it was wide, reaching deep into the illusion of light, countless littler creatures gripping out of the light and attacking it, just to break their teeth on the bladed parts and burn alive as they even dared touching the magma that made up it's body.

A mouth was there as well, a number of parallel teeth made of dark metal, looking as if they had been rusting since many millennia, unused, alone, a growl escaping that shook the whole everything for them, the five that had just managed to stand up collapsing all over again as they witnessed they eyes of the creature, about two miles under the chain they were standing atop off, each about a hundred miles wide, like burning whirlpools of dark metal and golden lava.

Around the endless fortress there were even more creatures made of magma, be it dragons, be it wyrm, be it worm-like beings with turning heads that ate through other attacking beasts with terrifying ferocity, there was nothing that could stand the endless swarm of beasts that the great tyrant had just summoned using the power most likely contained within that axe.

And after that impossible feat, he simply turned, looking not even the slightest bit exhausted, and began talking as if nothing had happened.

"Welcome to my masterpiece" said the crazed man with a wide grin on his face that looked as if he had broken his teeth over and over again, scaring Kehit, Ohrren and Avere, Leyk being rather uncaring because he had seen the lamps that had had a similar design, with him just telling himself it was not that much different, and Akrisen just not caring at all, aside from what seemed to be a slight nod, nodding everyone involved.

"Well, well, enter through the bridge" he gestured to follow him as he pointed to a bridge that had been let down from the fortress made of geometrically perfect squares extending hundreds of feet into the air, each of them being bigger than a normal city on ehetria, and they entered.

Ironically enough, even with just the bridge, it being about ten miles long, it took them quarter an hour to get to the top, still incomparably faster than a normal person, with Lawrence commenting he was still working on a solution to get along the boredom for when one had to walk through this endless place, calling for something that did not answer right after entering.

Another sixty miles, one hour later, everything looking bland and lonely inside, Lawrence commenting that he had just needed a place to store all the material he had found along the way, gesturing that his axe might have something to do with this incredible deed, in the end calling for the cubes to give way and making one of them into a tower atop the entire structure.

It took three hours, but after that they sat inside one of the eyes, the cubes having turned into something else, a castle of magnitude, but still meaningless as Lawrence claimed, saying he had really only used this for storage up until now, nothing else, exclaiming he'd probably have to make this thing a bit smaller after he was done with this job, all the time complaining about the long ways over and over again, to such a degree everyone in the party thought he should just shut up already and get it over if he hated it that much.

Then, finally, after a good 6 hours of travel, most of it having been spent in utter silence and shock, they arrived at the place they would sit in while waiting to get to the so-called golden city, or at least near it.
