Chapter 301 - Silver Ocean(62)

"What do you mean?" asked Avere, baffled from what the great pillar had just called him, knowing full well that he was still full of yearning, be it of revenge, be it for his own survival, be it for safety, be it for money, be it for freedom, he was not selfless in any way.

"You seem to be confusing selflessness with altruism, young one." the voice uttered, sounding slightly engaged now, but still senseless, as if without true purpose, the faceless slate the being called it's current body finally moving, positioning itself slightly upwards with rigid movements, something crawling under the skin to move it, as if to simply look at Avere until they quickly continued their talking.

"Altruism, or self-sacrifice is the thing you were thinking off, the act of being without self so much one is willing to kill themselves to save many more people, willing to do something that would make everyone hate the person just to achieve a noble cause, but the selflessness I am talking about is very much a different concept than the one you have concocted in the mortal realm." the voice continued it's explanation.

"The selflessness I am talking about is losing ones sense of self and becoming what one would call apathetic towards all, normally that is my very curse that I put in with my contract, the absence of many an experience caused by the contract of experiences." they paused for a moment.

"Poetic isn't is?" he asked, Avere silently agreeing.

"But still, in your case it was caused by the conflicts between a total of four new consciousnesses, by the involvement of a Sekaria, by you being only a fraction itself, by Cades and Arges old experiences, by my own trials I posed to you, and perhaps you have not yet fully realized it, but you have passed that all without problem." the voice ended the explanation.

"So... what now?" Avere asked.

"Well, we could talk about something you are interested in, but I can already tell that you are not inclined to spend much time here, so I don't think you will choose that option..." the voice said, in a tone that seemed to emulate what humans would call muttering.

Avere hesitated a moment, but was quick to ask something else, ignoring his own fear for the interest of Cades revenge, the appeasement of the Sekaria, and his own will to understand, though Adelius had already helped him with understanding that, he had a few questions to ask this omnipotent being.

But before he could that very being interrupted him.

"Before we fully begin, I must however introduce myself formally, as a sign that I will not kill you but instead accept you in the contract later on, should you so choose to accept", the voice said calmly, as if explaining something to a toddler while wearing a bright but false smile on ones face.

Avere nodded first, then there was a small pause before a thunderous voice began to resound throughout the endless world home only to the ocean of silver, of everything and nothing, that Avere was, for lack of a better term, gliding atop of.

"I am the great pillar of experiences, I am the endless storm of silver that holds the memories of all that is lost and is not, I am the dawn that brings rise to a new day, I am the feeling of the rain that falls from the highest cloud, I am the first time, I am the second time, I am every time one does, I am the tiniest bite of a bug, I am the greatest strike of a sword, I am the best grade you ever got, I am the respect your parents gave you not, I am the love you yearned of and gained one day, I am the lonely, I am those who found someone, I am every experience one ever had, I am all, I am naught.

Welcome, last child of ehetria, welcome to the silver ocean." the thunderous voice resounded within the endless realm he now knew to be the silver ocean, his ears ringing from the power of how they had just exclaimed it.

"I am sorry, young one, that was just part of the ancient traditions, and it is very useful to show both our own purpose of peace as well as to warn the other, not that you needed that part."

"..." Avere hesitated before talking again, "what did you mean by being the first time, the second time, and such?"

"Oh, that part does confuse a lot of people..." the voice resounded, now full of life, perhaps having been filled by the thunderous outbreak of the pervious voice they had used, sounding like an excited child, or perhaps like an excited old man, both as if a dog was wagging their tail to tell a story they had no way of telling.

"I am everything that is experienced, I am the fall of a drop of rain felt by the worms squirming underneath the earthy soil, I am the burning of the flames felt by the old woman burned for her herbs and healing a child, I am the pain of a man who lost their home and their future, I am the weight one puts on after a hearty meal full of nutrients and love, I am many things, but when one thinks of experiences one often only thinks of the first one, but do you think only the first one is a true experience?" he, or at least Avere assumed they were a 'he', took a small break.

"No, I say, and I feel, every drop of rain is new on the dry skin you have after a long day, every second you spend working on a overdue project is nearer to the end and more important, every new second you lay sleepless in your bed on a hot summer night, full of sweat, perhaps even hugged by a small cat, every second you live is a new thing, a new chance, something you can try."

"Every single thing that happens is a new experience." the voice finished the speech they had spoken full of conviction, obviously having a bit of fun in the telling of their very own theory.
