Chapter 279 - Silver Ocean(44)

The world was devoured by countless screams, and Avere saw the battlefield as it had been all this time ago, as the mountains of corpses became living creatures fighting against powerful magicians, some seeming to be even more powerful than him, sending out batches of lightning powerful enough to easily fry off the tentacles and countless limbs of the various types of creatures rushing towards them, most covered in the blood of those in front.

He had no idea where the monsters were coming from, despite overlooking the entire battlefield right now, that was a question for someone even beyond him right now, a person seeing hundreds of miles all at once, perceiving how one person was killed and how two monsters were smitten, how one person was ripped apart, how a dozen creatures were fried with lightning and fire, how one person was frozen, how a hundred creatures were ripped apart by their blade, how the situation was, surprisingly, overwhelmingly in favour of the 'humans' fighting here.

And even more so because of one single person, standing int he middle of the battlefield, a rift in the sky, burning in a bluish light, sending out waves of miniscule wyverns, of wyrms he had not seen as corpses on the battlefield, sending them out to fly to all edges, to cause chaos in the world, just for none of them to ever return alive, if they were to return, a single person slaying each and every single one of the countless beings, many more powerful than the current Avere, though that seemed to be rather normal on this insane battlefield, most spells cast here being rather fresh and complicated knowledge for Avere.

That person was Karan, the hero of this place as Avere was soon to find out, and the most powerful person in the world, someone who could spit in the face of titans without worries, someone who had turned kurakkan's into minced meat and used them for alchemy, though he had mainly donated the bodies to the study of the subject, someone more powerful and more praised than all others on this battlefield taking together, or at least someone believed to be at that level.

Indeed, a single slash of him, every few seconds, took down a horde of the sky, tightly packed with the swiftly escaping monsters, the strands of pure power and energy, shaped like the crescent moon, made of both intent and magic, tightly interwoven, driven forward by something entirely different, perhaps because of the way the sword was formed, spread out as soon as he sent them out, decimating the entire faction, killing dozens, if not even a hundred of the beasts with each swing, a swing he could've probably done much faster.

There was a bored expression on his face as well, an-

'If only I had known what was about to happen back then...' a voice resounded within the nowhere where Avere was situated right now, though he did not entirely understand how he was even able to see the entirety of the battlefield, including the rare soldiers who were just hiding themselves under other corpses, a sad attempt at surviving this clash.

"Who are you?" he tried saying, but no words truly came out, just the thought persisted.

'I am Karan, as you should probably already know, I am just here to show you, so don't get too worked up about it, and look at that beautiful dimensional rift over there...' he responded solemnly.

It wasn't that he hadn't seen the changes in the rift, it had been more like he had simply not had the time to concentrate on everything at once, as if the world was his to observe, as if, as long as he wished, he could see everywhere, and feel truly everything, it was just that, even if one saw everything in front of them, one could not easily concentrate on everything at once, it was always destined for one to miss some things when trying that, and the same thing had happened with the rift that was now burning in bright flames, spreading out further and further, as if the very fabric of reality was starting to get ripped apart, the world screeching in pain at the arrival of something beyond the dreams of mere mortals, something more powerful than Avere could ever hope to face, a being closest to the gods.

Instinctively his heart was screaming at him to run, despite it not even being real, and he felt ice freeze deep within his veins, witnessing the arrival of a dragon of greater power than all he had ever seen before, than every memory he had ever witnessed before, a dragon that could've killed Rondel's with a single glare, it was the arrival of a beast at the tyrant-rank, the rank that not even Adelius had reached, the rank that only Karan seemed to have reached.

The world froze all over, the blood starting to send out fumes that seemed to make countless of both the soldiers and the mages struggle standing still as the portal was now wide enough to devour entire villages and storms coming, wide enough to count as an entire sea had it been grounded on an horizontal level, and finally, Avere's heart stopping for a moment, a roar could be heard.

The roar turned the whole wide battlefield on it's head, the monsters as well as the 'humans' being sent flying, creating an empty place, miles wide, thought hey seemed to not be predestined as alone for long from what he had been able to see in that plane he had first arrived at, where the dragon, finally stepped foot, first appearing as a monstrous creature but quickly deciding to change it's form for the terrain, changing to that which he was fighting, partially to confuse others from what Avere was able to tell.

Now there stood a tall man, lean, covered in greyish robes with a belt holding his pants that were too wide to be normal at the feet, his face pale as if he had frozen to death long ago, but somehow still seeming more alive than most humans, his teeth being white as pearls as he began talking, the long white hair waving in the wind, enough to reach down half of his body.
