[Natasha called out over the sound of weapons fire: "This is just like Budapest all over again!"]
[Hawkeye continued shooting his specialized arrows while responding with obvious disagreement: "You and I remember Budapest very differently!"]
[Captain America sprinted forward through the chaos, weaving between abandoned and damaged vehicles. Energy blasts streaked past him continuously, but his enhanced reflexes and tactical awareness kept him ahead of the targeting systems.]
[Panicked civilians were still fleeing in all directions throughout the streets, creating additional obstacles and dangers.]
[Seven or eight NYPD officers had taken position behind patrol cars and were firing their service weapons at the Chitauri assault craft flying overhead, though their bullets were having little to no effect against the alien technology.]
[One of the officers ran up to his sergeant and reported breathlessly: "Sir! The National Guard says they need at least an hour to deploy here!"]
["An hour?!" The sergeant was clearly shocked and was about to respond when an energy blast forced him to duck for cover.]
[When the immediate threat passed, he called back: "Does the Army even know what's happening here?"]
[The reporting officer looked equally frustrated: "Your guess is as good as mine, Sarge!"]
[At that moment, Captain America landed directly in front of their position and immediately began issuing tactical orders: "I need you to get your people into those buildings! There are civilians trapped inside, and they're in immediate danger!"]
["Get them into basements or subway tunnels - anywhere below street level! Keep them off the streets! I need a perimeter established from here to 39th Street!"]
[The sergeant and his officer exchanged confused glances, then the sergeant responded with obvious skepticism: "And why should we take orders from you?"]
[At that precise moment, several Chitauri warriors landed directly in front of their position. Captain America immediately raised his shield to deflect an incoming energy blast, then drove the vibranium disk into the nearest alien soldier with devastating force.]
[Another enemy approached from his blind side and fired at point-blank range, but Captain America effortlessly intercepted the blast with his shield's surface.]
[Seeing that ranged weapons were ineffective, the Chitauri warrior attempted to attack the shield with razor-sharp claws, but this was naturally useless against vibranium. Captain America countered with a powerful punch that sent the alien staggering backward.]
[He then spun around and struck another enemy in the face with his shield's edge, dropping it instantly. When a third Chitauri swung a bladed weapon at him, he caught the attack on his shield and used the leverage to sever the creature's arm.]
[Captain America stood among the defeated aliens without saying a word, having proven his capabilities through decisive action rather than argument.]
[The sergeant immediately turned toward his officers and repeated Cap's orders with newfound respect: "You heard the man! Get teams into those buildings! Move everyone to the basements or lower levels!"]
[He then used his radio to coordinate with other units: "All units, establish defensive positions from this location to 39th Street! Move it, people!"]
"Hahaha! That police sergeant must be regretting questioning Captain America's authority, because he just got schooled!"
"The officer must have been thinking: 'Okay, maybe I was a little too loud there. My bad!'"
Tony and the others were greatly amused by the officer's rapid change in attitude.
It turned out that no one could escape the universal law of immediate attitude adjustment when faced with overwhelming evidence!
Some other citizens watching the events were expressing dissatisfaction with the National Guard's response time. When something this catastrophic was happening, it took them a full hour to deploy? Where exactly were their tax dollars going?
After all, the last time the Dark Elves had invaded, the defensive measures that General Ross had established in New York had collapsed immediately, which had already caused widespread dissatisfaction among citizens. They were beginning to doubt whether the military could actually protect them at all.
Following that incident, many residents who had originally planned to settle permanently in New York chose to relocate elsewhere. This exodus made New York, which was already economically depressed due to the Battle of New York, even more desolate.
But Tony wasn't particularly concerned about the economic implications. He understood what people were afraid of, but even though he had deployed the Iron Legion throughout New York, he couldn't provide them with genuine psychological security.
It would actually be beneficial for these civilians to leave New York. At least if there were future conflicts in the city, the potential damage to non-combatants would be significantly reduced. As for the economic problems? That wasn't his responsibility!
[Tony flew directly in front of the massive Leviathan and fired a sustained barrage of repulsor blasts to draw its attention.]
[The Leviathan immediately turned toward him and gave chase, its enormous body smashing directly through the corner of a nearby skyscraper as it maneuvered to pursue the much smaller target.]
[Tony muttered to himself through his comm system: "Okay, good! I've got its attention! Now what am I supposed to do with it?"]
[Meanwhile, on the street level, Hawkeye knocked a Chitauri warrior to the ground with his compound bow, then drew an arrow from his quiver and drove it directly into the alien's chest.]
[Black Widow leaped onto another enemy's back and used her Widow's Bite electrical weapons to incapacitate it with high-voltage shocks.]
[Hawkeye was momentarily distracted when a Chitauri soldier grabbed him from behind and attempted to wrestle him to the ground.]
[As Black Widow faced attacks from two enemies simultaneously, she wielded a captured Chitauri energy weapon with expert precision, quickly using the alien technology to fire energy blasts that knocked both attackers away.]
[Hawkeye managed to draw another arrow from his quiver and drove it into his attacker's torso, killing it and breaking free from the grapple.]
[But more enemies were arriving constantly. Hawkeye sprinted forward and dropped into a tactical slide, firing an arrow that eliminated an enemy approaching from behind, while Natasha continued using the captured Chitauri weapon to devastating effect.]
[At that moment, Captain America returned to their position and knocked away two enemies who were rushing toward Hawkeye and Natasha with perfectly timed shield strikes, then quickly pivoted to eliminate two more with follow-up attacks.]
[But there were still numerous Chitauri soldiers on the battlefield. Suddenly, a massive lightning strike fell from the sky and eliminated the remaining enemies in their immediate area. Thor had finally arrived.]
[Captain America immediately addressed Thor as soon as he saw him: "What's the story upstairs?"]
["The power surrounding the Tesseract is impenetrable!" Thor had attempted to breach the energy barrier, but no amount of force seemed capable of breaking through the protective field.]
[Tony heard Thor's assessment through his comm system and confirmed: "Thor's right. We've got to deal with these things first."]
[Natasha asked the obvious question: "How do we do this?"]
[Captain America responded without hesitation: "As a team."]
["I still have unfinished business with Loki," Thor declared with obvious anger.]
[After hearing Thor's statement, Hawkeye replied while nocking another arrow: "Yeah? Well, get in line."]
[Captain America interrupted their personal grievances: "Save it. Loki's going to keep this fight focused on us, and that's what we need."]
["Without him, these things could run wild. We got Stark up top. He's going to need us to..."]
[Just as Captain America was outlining their strategy, the distinctive sound of a motorcycle engine could be heard approaching. Captain America looked back to see Banner arriving on a borrowed bike.]
[Everyone immediately converged on his position.]
["So," Banner said as he surveyed the destruction around them, "this all seems horrible."]
[Natasha looked at Banner with mixed emotions, clearly remembering their traumatic encounter aboard the helicarrier.]
["I've seen worse," she replied diplomatically.]
[Banner didn't know how to respond to that and could only offer: "Sorry."]
[Natasha shook her head slightly, then nodded with determination: "Don't be. Right now, we could use a little worse."]
[Captain America immediately activated his comm to contact Tony: "Stark! We found him!"]
["Banner?"]
["Just like you said."]
[Tony's voice carried obvious excitement: "Tell him to suit up! I'm bringing the party to you!"]
[Tony suddenly appeared around the corner of a nearby building, flying at maximum speed with the enormous Leviathan in close pursuit. The massive creature smashed through another building's corner as it emerged into the street, bearing down on the assembled Avengers with terrifying momentum.]
