"How would you know that?" I asked, raising an eyebrow, trying to tease her and hide the twinge of vulnerability in my own voice.
"Because I have seen what you can do when you set your mind to something," she said. "Besides, just turn on your ridiculous charm. It's worked before, hasn't it?"
"What about you?" I asked, shifting my weight slightly so I could look at her more directly. "Are you ready for your interview tomorrow?"
"I still can't believe I'll be working at your company. It feels… strange," she admitted.
"Why?" I asked gently, leaning closer, wanting to ease that flicker of doubt in her expression. "Because we're married?"
"People will think I didn't earn the position. They'll assume it's nepotism," she whispered, almost as if speaking the words aloud made them real.
