Chapter 656 - Noldrei: I've Always Treated Kevin Like a Brother!

Aside from dealing with his own family, Noldrei also had to handle the people from the Elysian Realm.

Although they were all memory data constructs, it wasn't a huge problem. Physically, they felt no different from normal people. As long as their physical conditions were properly managed, even Elysia could move around like a normal person.

The only slight complication was the Herrscher of Sentience, Mobius, but Noldrei had no intention of leaving her here.

Elysia hadn't come looking for Noldrei because of his tentacles.

Beyond their past physical connection, the two hadn't had much deep interaction.

In some ways, the woman was even a bit "wary" of being around Noldrei. But based on his observations, there was a high probability that Elysia knew being with him would inevitably lead to some "unnecessary" treatment.

And now, Elysia had no choice but to take on the responsibility of being the communication bridge between the people of the Previous Era and him.

What else could she do? She couldn't very well push Aponia forward, could she?

Aponia would rather hide in the Elysian Realm than come out and face Noldrei. Who knew what she had seen in her own future?

Elysia was somewhat apprehensive. Had Aponia pushed her out to be the scapegoat?

It wasn't that she couldn't handle it, but with official business at hand, Elysia had no time to ponder such messy things.

When Elysia found Noldrei, he was, as always, sitting in front of the TV, watching his beloved My Little Pony.

In the two years Elysia had been watching the show with him, My Little Pony, after Noldrei found someone to inject it with outside capital and resources, had become more gorgeous and beautiful, but it had always lacked the feeling of the original first and second seasons.

That feeling of joy from seeing it for the first time...

Yet, Noldrei still watched with great relish. She had no idea what he was really watching.

"Ely? What brings you here when you have nothing else to do?"

The large room seemed a bit empty. Noldrei casually paused the TV and looked at Elysia, who had appeared in the room.

Elysia glanced around at the room's furnishings and asked pointedly, "Where is everyone else? Don't you usually have people watching TV with you?"

Noldrei didn't think anything was wrong with that and answered naturally, "They have their own things to do. It would be strange if they were always watching TV with me, wouldn't it? There's work for the security team, work in Academy City, managing the Stigma Space, research at the institute, some idiots need to go back to school, and so on."

Elysia didn't feel that Noldrei was particularly busy, just that this huge floating island felt less intimate than Raiden Ryoma's little villa.

She sighed and asked, "You did all this just so they could do what they're supposed to do? I thought you were planning on having more people follow you."

Noldrei explained calmly, "It's not right for them to revolve around me. Their positions are crucial right now. If even one of them leaves their post, it would cause instability in the new era. They'll only be qualified to take a break after some time has passed and a new generation of new humans has grown up."

Elysia took a deep breath, patting her chest to maintain a basic level of composure.

"You're such a cold-blooded fellow. I can't see a single shred of love you have for any of them."

Noldrei could tell Elysia was "criticizing her sovereign to his face."

"You misunderstand me. In many cases, overly intense emotions can transcend the primitive feelings of human hormones. Only life forms that have not yet fully evolved are bound by their own hormones. Even this new body of yours, which I just created, won't be an exception."

Noldrei pondered for a moment, then asked, "I don't quite understand. Your original body was that of a Herrscher, and later it was modified into a MANTIS with Honkai factors. In every respect, it was far better than this purely human body. Why did you choose this form?"

Elysia's index finger gently brushed against her pointed ear, which trembled slightly at her touch.

She said happily, "I don't understand it myself. When you asked me about a new body, I just kept wanting to try what it felt like to have a truly human one. This body is surprisingly compatible with me. I love this new body very much."

This new body was personally crafted by Noldrei; he knew it even better than Elysia did.

"You didn't come looking for me just because of your new body, did you? Is there something you wanted to talk about?"

Hearing Noldrei's direct question, Elysia felt even more helpless.

She was now very curious about what Noldrei was like when he first arrived in this world. The current Noldrei was a guy who had grown up rapidly in a short amount of time.

The Noldrei from back then, she thought, must have been much more interesting than the Noldrei of today.

Ely got straight to the point. "When will Kevin be able to hand over the Authority of Finality? Leaving it in his hands is a terrible torment for Kevin himself."

Noldrei looked at Elysia in astonishment. "Are you that eager for Kevin to die?"

"Nonsense! I have no such thoughts!" Elysia was nearly angered to death by him.

"I can see it all. Kevin has a death wish. There's nothing left in this world that he cares about. Even Su can't stop his determination to walk into death's embrace. I can indeed make him hand over the Authority he possesses sooner, but once he does, he will surely die."

Noldrei looked at Elysia and asked, "Based on my understanding of you Previous Era people, you can't possibly have no desire to stop and spend some quality time with a comrade you've fought alongside for so long, right? That's why I've never been in a hurry to make Kevin give up the Authority of Finality. Isn't it good to let him spend one last journey with you all?"

Just a moment ago, Elysia had called him emotionless and unloving, yet when interacting with others, he always managed to pull out exactly what they needed at the most critical moment.

It was hard to say whether he seemed loving because he was good to others, or if he was good to others because he was a loving person.

"Don't you want to spend more time with your old comrades?"

"Wanting to is one thing, but whether we can is another." Elysia didn't know how to answer this question.

"To Kevin, we memory constructs who accompanied him for a time in the Elysian Realm don't seem to be his true comrades from the past. The sight of us only constantly brings up the pain of his past losses."

But what could Elysia do?

She couldn't just make all the memory constructs in the Elysian Realm disappear, could she?

In the end, there was only one outcome: to grant Kevin the ending he truly desired now. Even if Noldrei could modify a person's body, allowing them to gradually forget the pain and retain only the true memories.

Just like Tesla, who had, step by step, walked out of the abyss of losing past friends and important companions.
