When the 1st Tag Battle match finally begins, Alex thought he would be ready for how it would go even if it didn't change from how it went in the series.
However, he severely underestimated Ichiya's very unique personality.
When the Rabbit reveals himself to be Nichiya, Alex still can stay composed. But when Ichiya starts fighting alone, his jaw just drops and he becomes speechless.
He is even more dumbfounded when Ichiya goes Super Saiyan, stunning Bacchus and Rocker with his handsome smile, then defeats them with just a punch.
If he narrates this battle to others, it might sound like a normal battle. But what unfolds in front of him is just so absurd he can't even understand it.
Fortunately, it's over quickly and the 2nd Match is starting soon. Lamia Scale vs Mermaid Heel, Lyon vs Ultear. Both of them were studying magic together from Ur, so this will be a battle between fellow disciples.
Alex can already predict the outcome of this battle, but he wants to know how it will go.
When the match starts, Ultear immediately creates a tall ice wall that separates Lyon and Yuka, almost splitting the arena into 2 parts.
"Go, Risley!"
With Ultear's command, Risley charges toward Yuka at a very high speed despite her chubby body.
She uses Gravity Magic to reduce her weight, so she can run very quickly.
Risley jumps and sends a punch at Yuka, but he blocks it using his Wave Magic shield that repels Risley's punch.
At least that's the plan because then Risley's punch passes through the shield and hits his palm, pushing him back a little.
Yuka's Wave Magis is a variation of Nullification Magic that works by making magic waves to dispel his opponent's magic as long as it touches his shield.
But Risley's Gravity Magic is used to reduce her weight. So even when the effect of her magic on her fist disappears, the momentum is still there.
That's why Risley's punch can still pass through although it slows down a bit.
Yuka quickly realizes that she is using her magic on her body, so he changes his strategy. He shoots his Wave Magic at Risley to dispel her Gravity Magic.
However, Risley also now understands how Yuka's Magic works. So she moves fast to dodge his Wave Shots.
The problem is, both of them can only use close-range attacks to defeat the others.
Risley is still not as skillful as Kagura with Gravity Magic and can only use it on a short distance, that's why she only uses it on her body and even if she shoots it, Yuka's Wave Magic will nullify it.
As for Yuka, his Magic only dispels his opponent's magic. He still needs to attack them with his own punches or kicks to defeat them.
But Risley keeps dodging his Magic, so he can't get closer. She also can't get closer because her magic keeps being nullified.
Both of them are just running around to find ways to win without being able to land any attack.
Meanwhile, Lyon is attacking Ultear with his Dynamic Ice-Make Magic. He sends different ice creatures toward Ultear.
However, she easily destroys his ice creatures using her giant Ice Roses.
Ultear creates a few giant Ice Rose Plants around her and she controls the thorny vines as whips to destroy Lyon's Ice Creatures.
Lyon is gritting his teeth while sending stronger spells. However, all of them are destroyed by Ultear's Ice Roses' thorny vines.
If the vines can't destroy them by whipping the ice creatures, they will wrap their long thorny vines around the ice creatures and crush them.
Lyon is really struggling against Ultear, but she is fighting him while also watching over Risley's battle. She will even give Risley some guidance.
"Tch! Focus on our fight, Ultear!" Lyon is obviously angry that she doesn't take him seriously.
"I will, if you can break through my Ice Roses. But you can't, so I decided to teach Risley a few things. She still lacks experience, that's why I let her try fighting your partner. RISLEY! YOU WILL RUN OUT OF MAGIC POWER IF YOU KEEP DRAGGING THIS FIGHT."
Ultear really doesn't put all her attention on Lyon. But Lyon can't do anything about it because even while teaching her Guild Mate, Ultear can destroy all of his attacks easily, frustrating Lyon greatly.
He finally decides to just let loose and creates a giant Ice Serpent, which finally takes Ultear's attention.
Ultear's Ice Roses' vines bind the Giant Ice Serpent, but they break when the serpent wriggles around.
Smirking, Ultear uses her Ice Make Magic again to make something different.
"Ice Make: Seeds!"
Countless small ice projectiles in the shape of seeds are shot at the giant Serpent while Ultear escapes from its bites.
The small ice seeds aren't damaging the Giant Ice Serpent, but many of them are sticking onto its scales, covering most of its body soon.
Ultear also shoots some of the ice seeds at Lyon, but he blocks them with an ice turtle shell.
"Hahaha! What are you doing, Ultear? Such weak attacks won't break my giant serpent's tough scales. These sneak attacks won't work on me either." Lyon laughs while controlling his giant ice serpent.
"Sorry, Lyon, but I'm not as simple-minded as you." Ultear grins before stopping in the serpent's path.
"Ice Make: Rafflesia!" Ultear uses another spell which is quite shocking.
Numerous big Ice Rafflesia Flowers suddenly grow all over the Giant Ice Serpent's body. They grow from the seeds that stick onto the serpent's body.
Their roots break into the ice serpent's body very quickly, destroying it easily.
Of course, that means the seeds that are shot at Lyon and stick onto the ice turtle shell are also growing into big rafflesia flowers.
The ice roots grow wildly and catch Lyon's body, wrapping all over his body, completely sealing his movements.
"You still need to learn more, Lyon." Ultear smirks as she defeats Lyon easily.
She then looks at Risley who is still fighting Yuka. The tall ice wall that separated the arena into 2 has been destroyed by the giant ice serpent, so everyone can see the whole arena again now.
Risley has lost quite a lot of her weight as a unique side-effect of spending her magic power.
She almost runs out of it, so she needs to find a way to win quickly.
However, Yuka is faster at making a move. He shoots a big Wave Magic Ball at Risley who charges at him.
She runs too fast and can't dodge that attack, so she gets hit. Her magic is nullified and Yuka takes the chance to send a kick at her.
But suddenly, an ice pillar shoots out of the ground, blocking Yuka's kick. Yuka can hear a crack, but not from the ice pillar, it's from his right leg.
He screams in pain because the ice pillar is so hard, making his right leg's shinbone hurt a lot, and it seems to be cracking.
"Sorry, but while you can win if that kicks land, I certainly can't let you kick our Risley and hurt her, so I intervened. Now, I think it's best if you give up."
Ultear walks slowly while smiling. She raises her right hand and some ice ropes appear around Yuka, binding him so he can't move anymore.
With the 2 Mages from Lamia Scale unable to move and continue the battle, the 2nd match is finally over with Mermaid Heel's victory.
Lyon still has a long way to reach Ultear's level, and even Gray seems to realize that Ultear is still much stronger than him.
Most people even realize that Ultear wasn't using all her power in this match. After all, she is also known for her Water God Slayer Magic, yet she doesn't use it at all.
Some think that it's because Lyon uses Ice Magic, which could freeze water, so Ultear didn't use it.
But the main reason was Ultear wanted to fight Lyon using the Magic they learned together. Lyon is also an Ice-Make Magic specialist, so she wanted to fight him on his field to flex.
Those who know her like Alex and Gray immediately realize her real reason.
As for whether her Water God Slayer Magic will be at a disadvantage against Lyon's Ice-Make Magic, no one will ever know for sure unless Ultear uses it to fight Lyon again.
But that won't happen today because she has won and the next match will start soon.
Sting and Rogue vs Yukino and Sorano.
No one except Alex knows that Yukino was supposed to be a member of Sabertooth.
But because of the great changes in the past, she is now a member of Heaven's Runners, a Guild created by the former slaves of the Tower of Heaven.
Sorano, Yukino's older sister is one of the founders and thanks to Heaven's Runners victory at the 1st Grand Magic Games Tournament, both sisters who have been separated for years could reunite because Sorano was covered in many news, helping Yukino find her.
Now, Yukino is not a member of Sabertooth, and she will fight Sabertooth Mages, people who could he her comrades had nothing changed in the past.
