Months went by and so did school. It was now Christmas break. Snow piled up outside on the sidewalk. My parents and Xavier's parents had biweekly dinners at both of their places and this time, it was our turn to go to their place for dinner. Ava was invited to come over to their place as well.
We came back to my place to get ready for the dinner. "I don't know what I should wear Ava. Like, do I wear a cute dress or a skirt and long sleeves with tights under it or jeans and a nice shirt?" I said to her before I plopped my bag down on the bed.
"Well, they are all great options. I mean, can I see the dresses?" She asked while she put her stuff down. I went to my closet and opened it. Ava walked over and looked at my clothes before actually going through the closet. "Wait, you never showed me this dress." Ava said before pulling out a dress. It was a pretty and simple black dress. It was long and when I put it on, it touches the floor barely. "Oh yeah, I forgot to show that one to you." I said before I took it. "I wanted to show you with it on though and I think this is the perfect timing to do it actually." I said before I went into the bathroom and changed into the dress. The back of the dress was open a bit. It hugged me in the right places and everything. It was literally the perfect dress. I walk out to show Ava the dress.
As soon as I went back into the room, Ava looked up and dropped her jaw. "Oh...my...god... THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL DRESS!" She practically yelled when she said that. I twirled around for her to see the dress on me. "You better keep this dress on for the dinner tonight!" She said before she dug in the closet to find matching shoes for it. I heard her making noises as she was finding them. "I FOUND THE PERFECT PAIR!" She yelled before pulling out a pair of black heels. The heel was maybe like one-inch-tall dress shoes. My mom gave them to me when they didn't fit her anymore. I pursed my lips before I took my slippers off and I put the heels on.
"So... does this look good? Or does it look like I'm doing too much? I mean, this is a great 'first date' type of outfit though. I think I might do a nice skirt and shirt with tights or leggings under them with boots. This feels too fancy for me." I said, looking in the mirror. I looked back at Ava as she frowned from what I said.
"Girl, just ask him if it's a big event type of dinner because he is even letting me come over with y'all! It's also Christmas break so maybe he has family coming over and everything." She said tapping her foot as she stood with her hands on her hips.
I nodded my head as I listened to you. "I will ask him really quick. I grabbed my phone before I called Xavier. I waited for him to pick up his phone. Once I did, I smiled softly. "Hey Xavier."
"Hey Adnois, what's up?" I heard him say on the other end.
"Is the dinner like a Christmas dinner with other family members or what?" I asked as I sat down on my bed.
"Yeah, it's a big Christmas dinner with other family members and friends so you have to dress nice. My grandparents from both sides of the family so... you kinda gotta dress up now." He said before I heard him talking to someone else. "But, I have to get going, my parents need me. I will see you later! Bye!" He said before he hung up.
I looked over at Ava. "We have to dress up... his grandparents on both sides of the family are coming and it's also with other people in his family." I said as I had my lips in a straight line. Me and Ava looked at each other with a blank expression.
"So that means we also have to do out make up too?" Ava asked before I nodded my head. "Yup... we have to now..." I said as I went to my vanity and I started to do my makeup. I was going for the simple and natural look for my outfit. "What should I do for my hair?" I asked.
""I think you should do a cute half up half down." She said as she put on one of my other nice dresses.
I nodded my head and I finished my makeup. I grabbed my brush and I started to do my hair. After a bit, we are both done. I went and grabbed Xavier's present before I gave Ava her present. "Here, before we go, open your present real quick." I said before I smiled gently at her. She took the present and opened it. It was a collage I made of us.
"Adnois! You didn't have to!" She almost started to cry. I hugged her tightly before my parents told us to come down. I grabbed my jacket as it was going to be cold outside. I gave Ava one of my jackets as well before we both ran down the stairs. Both of my parents also dressed nice. My mom held the dessert dishes and we all went to the car.
It took us about 15 minutes to get to his place. We saw cars outside of his house. We parked the car a bit far from the house.
All of us got out and we headed to Xavier's house. I held his present in my arms as I was nervous about what his reaction would be when I showed him that I got him a present.
My dad rang the doorbell. We stood there for a good minute before I saw the door open. It was his mom. She smiled happily at us, gave us hugs and moved aside for us to come in.
I smiled happily before I stepped inside. I looked up and I saw Xavier walking into the living room with a drink to give to someone. He looked up and saw us. He smiled happily and waved before he gave the drink to his grand ma before he came over. "Hey! Y'all look very fancy!" He said chuckling a bit at the end. I let everyone go in front of me before I looked up at him again.
"I have a present for you." I said before I gave him his present. He smiled happily taking it from me and when he did, I took my jacket off. "Thank you Adnois! I also have a present for you too... woah..." He said before looking up at me. I saw him just stare before I waved my hand in his face. "Earth to Xavier?" I said laughing a bit at the end. I heard his grand ma laughing, watching our interaction. "You... look... amazing..." He spoke slowly. I smiled softly as I thanked him. I took my heels off.
"Yeah...uh... uh..." He was speechless. "I'm just uh... gonna put the present in my room for now..." He said before he went up to his room.
I looked over at his grand ma before I smiled happily. I went over to her before I sat next to her. "Hi, I'm Adnois, Xavier's friend." I said before I had my hand out for her to shake.
"Nice to meet you Adnois." She said before shaking my hand. "Xavier always talks about you to me. You are so beautiful!" She exclaimed before I chuckled a bit. "Thank you! You are so beautiful as well!" I returned the compliment back to her. "The colour suits you well too!" I added on. His grand ma's face lit up in happiness and excitement as I said that to her.
Xaiver came back downstairs and saw us talking. "So, I take it you both met?" He asked before we both nodded our heads. ""She is way prettier in person!" She said to him. Xavier shook his head in embarrassment.
"Dinner is ready!" I heard his mom say from the kitchen. I got up before I helped his grand ma get up and I walked with her to the table. We all sat down at the table.
I made his grand ma's dish before I made mine. We all talked at once at the table. We talked about our day, Ava was getting to know Xavier's family. I was talking to his grandparents while Xavier sat there, he chimed in my conversations, he chimed in on my parent's conversation and Ava's conversation.
I looked over at Xavier as me and his grandparents were now done talking. I smiled softly at him. "So, did you open the present I gave you or no?" I asked him as I was actually curious.
"I am waiting till everyone except your family goes home. I want to open the present in front of you and you have to open the present I got for you in front of me!" He said with a small smile before he ate his food. I also ate my food as well.
Everyone talked that night. Me, Ava and Xavier went to out to the patio to talk about random things like celebrities and how stupid their dresses or suits were. Me and Ava laughed as Xavier pretended to be one of the actors and pose in a weird way. "Dude, you should definitely do acting after we gradate." I joked as I continued to laugh.
"Wait, I actually did theater at my old school in Maine!" He said before he took out his phone and showed us pictures and videos of him in theater. Me and Ava laughed as we saw the videos that he showed us. "How long did you do theater?" I asked looking over at him as I was actually interested in it.
"I did theater since middle school. Since I moved here my senior year, I thought about joining the club, but I was like nah. I didn't want to do that so, this is my relaxing year where I don't do club activities BUT I work so I can save money for college." He said in a gentle tone. Me and Ava nodded out heads as we heard him say that. "That's deep man." Ava said before she went in her jacket pocket and gave Xavier a small present. "Here, I forgot to give this to you at the front door." She said before glancing over at me.
I looked at the gift that she gave to him. I smiled softly and I looked over at Xavier. "We should open our presents! We are now away from the adults now so we can do that." I said smiling a bit at him.
"Oh yeah! Let's go to my room and open the presents!" He said before getting up from his seat. We also got up from our seats and followed behind him to his room. We followed him up the stairs and he opened his door to his room.
"Woah...your room is so cool." I heard Ava said as we walked into the room. His room was like completely organized and everything. Usually, guy rooms are very unorganized. I can say that about Ava's brother's room. I looked over at Xavier's posters and the pictures of him and his friends. I smiled softly as I saw how happy he was with his friends from Maine.
Xavier looks at both of us. "You guys can sit on the bean bag chairs." He said, pointing to them. My and Ava sat down before he went and got the presents from his closet. He gave them to us before he sat down and held the two presents he got from us. We all looked at each other before we nodded our heads. We all opened our presents together.
