It wasn't Cass who reached out and woke up a few days later. It was the Gods who reached out.
To Gideon.
Gideon had been certain that the gods were watching them and watching this situation. They liked Cass, in Gideon's mind. They had selected him as a hero after all, of course they would watch out for one of their favoured children. Gideon expected this, because he knew that he was a last minute saint.
He didn't tell anyone that and no one outside of himself needed to know that, he just didn't think that they would speak to him outside of when they made him a saint. It had been a rather strange experience, one he wasn't sure if he had wanted to experience again.
So, it came as quite a shock when he had been chased downstairs to go through his normal routine by Edgar that during the middle of his regular drills that his vision faded, the sound of his heavy breathing faded, and Gideon found himself pulled into a dark space that he'd only seen once before.
