Just before class, a joke was circulating in the room. Tang Jing said she invited Huang Yuzhu to a cybercafe over the weekend, and Huang brought shoe covers.
Laughter echoed in the classroom, leaving Huang Yuzhu with an embarrassed expression.
Chen Siyu didn't laugh. She grabbed Geng Lu and poked Jiang Ning to engage in a small group discussion about the issue.
"Why did we have to wear shoe covers during computer class when we were kids, do you know?"
Geng Lu thought for a moment and shared her long-held belief: "It's probably to prevent static electricity from the shoes from damaging the computers."
Chen Siyu disagreed: "But isn't there more static from winter clothes? With all the crackling sounds!"
Geng Lu realized it made sense and offered another thought: "For hygiene reasons, perhaps? Like if the shoes are dirty, it'd be hard to clean the computer room."
Chen Siyu: "But my shoe covers were dirtier than my shoes!"
Geng Lu coughed.
