Shen Tan couldn't help but laugh when she heard this, realizing the little fellow was worried about money.
"It's okay," she said, "Mom has money, Yanyan doesn't need to worry for Mom."
The little one looked at her, and after seeming to confirm the truth of her words, the serious expression on his face eased. Then he looked at her earnestly and said, "When Yanyan grows up, I will work hard to earn money with Mom, so Mom won't have to work so hard."
"Great! Mom will be waiting."
Shen Tan's heart felt both sour and soft; although someone was detestable, they had left her two sweet little darlings.
Shen Tan decided to forgive the other party.
"Let's go, let's go home."
Taking one child in each hand, Shen Tan was about to head back to the apartment, but she stiffened upon seeing the figure approaching from the opposite side. The smile on her face visibly faded away.
Almost reflexively, she shielded the two little ones behind her.
"Mom?"
