Dove
The flight had not felt that long, but the second I was home my body gave out.
I took a nap as soon as I got through the front door. I told myself it was just travel exhaustion. That was the only explanation that made sense. The only plausible reason I felt so drained, like someone had pulled all the energy out of me and left me hollow.
When I woke up, the afternoon light was cutting through my curtains in gold stripes.
I smiled the moment I looked around my room. My mom had done nothing to decorate this new dedicated room in the house they were renting for me to make it feel different from the old one. She had brought my same desk in here instead. The one that looked like it was holding on for dear life, with one leg that wobbled if you leaned on it too hard.
