Cain woke up earlier than usual with the sense that something was wrong.
It wasn't until his eyes fully popped open, as he glanced at the space beside him on the bed and touched it, that he realized what was wrong.
The side of the bed Violet should have been lying on was cold, almost like it hadn't been slept in. Surprised by how deeply he had slept, he instantly scrambled off the bed.
"Violet!" he called, putting on his clothes as he prepared to head out—especially when he got no answer.
Through their bond he could tell that all was well and she wasn't in danger, but instead of feeling relieved he felt even more worried as he hurriedly dressed up and headed out.
But he had just taken a few steps when he noticed a piece of paper that had been left on the table. One glance was enough to tell him that it was from Violet.
Frowning deeply, he slowly picked it up and read the contents of it.
