Chapter 28 - I Heard the Warning

Kana's warning remained on the workshop recorder after she left, leaving Warehouse Nine's address beside a message she would not explain. Her silence made the address more useful than any apology she offered.

Vell replayed the final line once before removing the device from the table, because a warning could still be useful when the speaker was a traitor. He believed the trap existed, though he did not believe her motives.

Kana knew enough about Warehouse Nine to fear it, which made her refusal to explain itself suspicious. Vell used the warning as information without letting it become any forgiveness.

"It is a trap," Yenna said, checking the outer door through the workshop window, "so we stop walking into it the way they planned."

The tracker inside the abandoned applicant still carried the staged sale location, which meant the Directorate expected Vell to bring a valuable repair recipe to Warehouse Nine. That expectation gave Yenna a visible role they could use outside today.
