Chapter 208 - We Gamble With A Goddess

Perhaps it wasn't a great idea for Bandit and Equan to venture into the domain of the moon goddess...

Especially in the dead of night when her influence was said to be strongest.

Equan ducked underneath of a massive saw-edged blade that swung down from one of the nearby trees.

Bandit was currently propelled into the sky exchanging blows with a wolf the same of a dragon.

Equan had to freeze for a moment in amazement even though he had been clearly told to "Never stop moving".

Bandit was launched backwards but had some sort of shoes on that could sprout wings whenever he was in great peril, or at least that is what the archer had learned from the little he had seen of Bandit's fighting style.

Soaring through the sky, Bandit shot both of his handheld crossbows at the beast, each hitting their mark and embedding themselves into both of the wolf's crystal eyes.

An arrow whizzed past Equan's head, echoing with a strike as it crushed the entire tree behind him.

'Right!'

Throwing himself into a roll, he dodged another arrow and kept running towards the shack at the center of the forest that seemed almost too alive.

Clutching his bow, he spun around another arrow, knocked his own, and shot in the direction where the arrows were coming from.

A crushing explosion radiated throughout the forest with a strange blue energy and Equan's lightning as two powerful arrows clashed into each other at full speed.

Lowering himself into a sprint, he kept moving forward, feeling a terrible pressure start to cave his brain in the closer he got the shack.

Behind him, he heard a loud explosion that shook the ground as Bandit let out a loud scream followed by several curses that Equan couldn't even understand the harsh meaning of.

The shack was on the top of an artificial hill, surrounded by strange statues of the moon and some monsters that Equan had never even heard of before, let alone seen.

The wolf had been sleeping peacefully until Bandit had started screaming at it to get its attention.

Equan did not know why they didn't just sneak past it; however, who was he to question the man that was battling on the same level as a goddess's familiar.

He was about to reach the top of the hill, when an arrow struck the ground right next to him, shooting him farther away from the shack.

"Foolish boy..."

A beautiful girl around Equan's age said with a sad sigh.

She shot another arrow before Equan could even see her knock the bow, and the ground erupted into a lunar lightshow.

The sky began to glow with ethereal colors, and just for a moment Equan finally felt out of his league.

Then Bandit crushed into the ground in front of him, pointing both of his crossbows at the goddess.

Equan would have said that he escaped with no injuries, but he felt his eyes wanting to rip themselves out of his skull from the pure sight of a goddess.

It was terrible, and no doubt the worst headache he had ever had.

Gripping his head, he dropped his bow and started trembling from the force.

"Luna... Lower your presence please..."

Bandit said in a very very hateful tone, his knuckles turning white on the crossbow's grip.

"You hurt Luna..."

She said with a frown.

"You named your pet after yourself?"

Bandit asked in outrage.

"Never mind, you are killing the boy that I have brought with me, release your godly presence... Now."

Bandit growled.

"I bet you're no fun at parties."

She pouted.

Then an intense shift in the air shot out from her body, releasing the terrible draw on Equan's mind and soul.

She sat on the grass and folded her arms.

She was wearing a white gown and a tiara in her metallic blue hair, if it weren't for the silver eyes and the fact that she was a goddess Equan would have found her quite the girl.

However, his mind was still aching terribly and he wasn't even sure if his own thoughts were really even his.

"What's his name?"

She asked, twirling her bow made of strange unknown materials, around her finger.

Equan struck the ground with his fist, and pushed himself to his feet with ragged breathing.

"Equan of House Lightning..."

He stated, wiping blood off of the side of his mouth.

She frowned, leaning back on her hands and looking at the giant moon above them.

"Ugh... Why are you here Bando...?"

She asked puffing her cheeks out.

"It's Bandi-"

He tried to correct but was cut off immediately.

"Nobody calls you that..."

"I call him that."

Equan raised a hand.

Luna looked at Bandit with an expression that was easily tellable as "Really dude?".

"What have you poisoned this child's mind with?"

Bandit dismissed his crossbows into a puff of crimson dust, and leaned against the wooden shack.

"Remember that favor you owe me?"

Luna groaned and threw her head back in a loud and obnoxious sigh.

"Nope, don't know who you are..."

"This is a matter of life and death Luna, and you as well as I do that the human race is at stake here..."

"Bah! I Already told Prometheus, and he said "No you don't! You are still young and no nothing of the human race's persistence." Then he scolded me for like two hours of my life that I am never going to get back..."

Bandit glanced around the hilltop, then looked back at her.

"You chose one anyway..."

Luna smiled giddily and threw her arms up in the air.

"That I did! And you should have seen the look on Promy's face! Oh, and my champion's a good one too, right now he has both a celestial servant and a pet dragon!"

Bandit stared awkwardly, as if hoping that she would have waited a little longer.

"What is a champion?"

Equan asked, tilting his head.

"It is the true reason I brought you here... However, it seems that I will not be able to uphold that part of my vow just yet... But good news, you wouldn't have been compatible with a moon god anyway, I sort of assumed this much though, which is that favor I need to ask of you..."

Her turned to Luna, and lifted a strange metal artifact from his pocket. His crimson eyes narrowing above his bandana.

She tilted her head and raised an eyebrow.

"You want me to contact Volaris...?"

Luna asked, a smug smile forming on her lips.

"You know he will ask a lot..."

"I know that you can convince him to join your side..."

"How?"

Luna asked Bandit, rubbing a finger on her chin.

"Because you have a way with the other gods... They look at you like their own child, and you have them wrapped around your vile finger..."

Bandit said with violence leaking through his already harsh tone.

Luna made a pouty face, and looked as if in deep thought for a slight moment.

"Yeah sure!"

She said, as if she really wasn't considering anything at all.

"I made that quiver by the way, and just by reading his energy signature... I think Volaris will like this one..."
