As William embraced the raw, primal essence of Resolution itself, a warp portal suddenly ripped through the skies above Sakaar. From its churning vortex emerged Thanos's massive flagship, a menacing behemoth that distorted the fragile fabric of space around the gateway. In its wake came an enormous fleet of smaller vessels, ranging from nimble, heavily armed gunships to towering, heavily fortified battleships.
Perched on his immense throne, Thanos gazed down at the planet below, a sinister smirk playing across his lips. His head rested indolently on one hand, while his eyes gleamed with a cold, malicious light that momentarily illuminated the dark, forbidding lines of his face.
With a swift motion, he lowered his colossal hand that glowed with the space stone and gestured toward the image displayed before him. His voice, deep and commanding, echoed as he issued his orders.
"Descend and conquer!"
The ships surrounding his flagship obeyed, descending toward the unsuspecting planet. However, as the first vessels pierced the planet's atmosphere, an unexpected phenomenon unfolded.
BOOM!
A radiant yet translucent barrier materialized, shimmering with a bronze hue. The lead ships collided with it, bursting into flames and scattering debris, while the rest of the fleet hastily retreated, maintaining a cautious distance from the enigmatic shield.
"Fascinating," Thanos murmured, his deep voice echoing through the bridge of his flagship. Rising steadily from his seat, he approached the display that now showcased the planet and its luminous bronze barrier. He extended his hand, summoning the power of the space stone.
WENG!
The space stone within Thanos's gauntlet began to emit a dazzling blue light, its glow interspersed with faint, star-like flickers that danced and shimmered within and around the gem.
CTCH!
Thick fractures started to form across the once flawless barrier. As the network of cracks expanded, spiderwebbing across its surface, beads of sweat appeared on the Mad Titan's brow, betraying the immense effort required to break through.
"What is this? To resist an infinity stone to such a degree..." His thoughts snapped back to the task at hand.
Thanos clenched his gauntleted fist with a surge of determination, thin trails of blue spatial energy weaving their way through his arm.
"I need the other stones!" he growled.
Rage began to boil within the Mad Titan's massive chest, erupting in a primal roar as he pushed the full extent of his mystical and biological power to its limits. In response, the Space Stone's glow intensified, flooding the bridge with an energy that subtly distorted the space around Thanos.
"BREAK BEFORE THANOS!" He roared with mad glee, and the energy suddenly condensed into a fine point on the barrier.
CRACKLE!
BOOM!
The barrier fractured like a web of shattered glass, sending colossal shards of the construct hurtling into their fleet.
KABOOM!
"Take evasive action NOW!" Thanos bellowed to his crew. The commands were swiftly relayed down the chain of command, and soon the ships began executing a mesmerizingly synchronized evasive maneuver, encapsulating the entirety of the remaining fleet.
The remnants of the barrier dissolved into shimmering motes of light, eliciting a collective sigh of relief from most of the fleet. However, their sensors suddenly detected movement emanating from the planet's surface.
Zooming in on the closest approaching object, they were stunned to see what looked like a man made of living stone, clad in an ornate bronze suit of armor. The armor had a rugged, rocky texture that gave the stone figure a powerful and dignified presence.
Following him was a red-skinned woman, possibly a native of Sakaar, also dressed in a bronze suit. Her armor emphasized her feminine form while appearing highly functional for combat.
On their hands, bronze rings emitted a radiant and righteous energy. As the stone man raised his massive arm, the bronze energy materialized into a colossal fist of pure bronze light, hurtling toward the fleet with impossible speed.
WHOOOSH... CRACK!
The enormous bronze fist collided with several smaller ships, obliterating them, while the remaining vessels narrowly evaded the projectile with swift maneuvers.
A second fist surged toward the fleet, but a portal suddenly materialized, intercepting the attack and redirecting it to unknown destinations.
Before the fleet could regain composure, the red-skinned woman constructed what appeared to be an enormous flak cannon, floating in space like a grotesque space station. Its barrels swiveled to lock onto the fleet.
WOOOSHHH!
The barrels glowed with an intense bronze light, and those watching held their breath as time seemed to freeze for an instant.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The cannon unleashed a relentless barrage, forcing the fleet into a desperate scramble for survival. Even the ships' shields were shredded under the onslaught, while Thanos frantically wielded the space stone, its power radiating with chaotic intensity.
The bridge of Thanos's flagship pulsed with chaos and energy. The Mad Titan stood motionless at its center, the wild flares of the Space Stone dancing along his gauntlet, illuminating his grim face in flickering shades of blue. Each pulse reflected off the polished metal walls like starlight trapped in a hurricane.
"Deploy Phalanx Protocols," he commanded, voice like a forge bell being struck.
At once, the atmosphere changed. The order rang out across the fleet, transmitted instantaneously through neural links and command channels. Hidden compartments unfolded from the underbellies of Thanos's larger ships, releasing entire squadrons of automated war-drones, each a sleek black arrowhead with blazing red optics and destabilizer cannons crackling with void energy.
These were not mere machines. They were mind-linked death swarms, engineered by the Mad Titan himself for planetary sieges. And they flew with terrifying precision.
As the red-skinned woman reloaded her flak cannon and prepared to fire again, the first wave of Phalanx drones blitzed past her construct, releasing a concussive cascade of plasma rounds that tore through space like a volcanic storm.
BOOM!CRACK!ZSHREEEEEE!
The cannon detonated mid-recharge, breaking apart in a burst of molten bronze shards. The recoil sent the woman spinning, momentarily disoriented, her armor flickering under the strain of the incoming damage.
"Hold your line!" barked the stone-skinned man. He raised his bronze-forged arms as dozens of drones swarmed around him, and with a thunderous gesture, he summoned a dome of radiant bronze energy to protect them both.
But the drones weren't alone.
A dozen of Thanos's capital ships moved into formation, encircling Sakaar's orbit like a ring of swords. Their forward-mounted ion lances glowed to life. Coordinated targeting arrays zeroed in. Every lens and cannon trained on the two Lanterns, who now drifted between worlds.
"Fire," Thanos whispered.
A wall of light erupted from the enemy fleet.
BLAAAAAAAAAAM!
The ion barrage smashed into the bronze dome, cracking it instantly, rippling its surface with fractures that spread like a disease. The sheer pressure hurled both warriors backward, toward Sakaar's upper atmosphere, where streaks of fire licked at their forms as gravity began to pull them in.
Below, the skies of Sakaar boiled with war-born tension.
Inside his flagship, Thanos watched the battle unfold with a grim sort of satisfaction. He had underestimated the bronze force. But now, he was adjusting.
"Send the Conquest Class down to low orbit. Prepare the Scourge Banners."
One of his generals turned, hesitating. "Shall we deploy ground forces?"
"Not yet," Thanos said. "Let them crawl back to their rock first. Then we crush their hope."
The Space Stone glimmered again, opening hundreds of miniature portals around the fleet. Out of them came bursts of teleporting torpedoes, guided by his will. Each torpedo twisted and contorted space around it, warping through shields and reappearing inside bronze constructs to explode from within.
Suddenly, a new signal blazed across every comms channel.
"Incoming warp signatures!" a Sakaaran defense AI screamed across the open bands. "Multiple... no, dozens. Velocity: Class-5!"
Thanos turned slowly.
The stars themselves seemed to bend inward for a moment, like the universe had inhaled. Then—
FWOOOOOOOOM!
A wall of light surged from deep space as dozens of Nova Corps ships rocketed into view, piercing through reality in synchronized formation. Each ship was sleek and golden, bearing the crescent insignia of the Nova Corps, their engines burning bright with antimatter propulsion.
At the head of the fleet was a glowing figure, humanoid but surrounded by a corona of golden starlight, Nova Prime herself, Richarda Xandari. Her voice rang across open comms like a war trumpet:
"By order of the Nova Corps and the United Galactic Accord, this invasion ends now."
Thanos narrowed his eyes.
"Cute."
Nova Prime descended like a comet, slamming into a Phalanx warship and bursting through its center like a meteor through glass. The vessel exploded into fractured debris as the rest of the Nova fleet fanned out.
Within seconds, the tide turned.
The battlefield was chaos incarnate. Phalanx drones spiraled through space in brutal formations, their void-energy cannons carving through rock, metal, and bronze alike. Nova starships danced through the madness, their golden lances piercing Thanos's forces with surgical fury.
At the heart of it all, two Bronze Lanterns held the line.
The red-skinned woman surged ahead, twin streamers of bronze light trailing from her feet. Her armor sparked, cracked along the ribs, but her eyes burned with fierce, defiant resolve. Beside her flew her partner, an immense stone-skinned figure, his armor cracked and glowing from within like a volcanic forge.
"We hold the breach," he rumbled, voice deep as a tectonic shift.
"Or die trying," she snapped back, forming a long glaive in one hand and a rotating bronze shield in the other.
Thanos, watching from the bridge of his flagship, scowled. The tide was turning faster than he liked. His drones were falling faster than they could regenerate, and now even his battleships were being overwhelmed by the Nova fleet's precision strikes.
The stone Lantern charged first, bronze jets igniting at his back. He slammed into a squadron of Phalanx drones, fists glowing, and exploded with kinetic force. Bodies shattered, metal melted, and a ripple of bronze energy tore through a nearby warship's hull.
The red-skinned Lantern followed suit, weaving between ships, flinging spears of burning light. One pierced the reactor core of a command cruiser, detonating it in a cataclysm of collapsing metal and fire.
Then came Nova Prime.
Descending like a meteor, cloaked in a corona of golden plasma, Richarda Xandari tore through a drone formation and drove straight into a Conquest-class destroyer. She erupted from the other side, leaving molten slag in her wake, her voice echoing across the comms:
"This system is under Nova protection. You're done here, Thanos."
Thanos's lip curled.
On the command deck, his generals hesitated, watching multiple destroyers go dark, communications severed, drones routed. Even the Space Stone in his gauntlet began to pulse erratically, as if protesting the strain of extended warfare against multiple high-tier threats.
Thanos raised a hand.
A shimmering projection of the battlefield unfolded before him, Nova ships flanking, Bronze Lanterns pressing, Phalanx units crumbling. There was no tactical advantage left.
He snarled. "Enough."
One sharp gesture, and the Space Stone lit up with a violent glow.
Across the sky, hundreds of miniature portals burst into existence, like stars imploding. They formed directly in front of the surviving ships, swallowing them up one by one. Drones abandoned their assaults mid-charge, vanishing into warp space like cinders in a storm.
The red-skinned Lantern halted, hovering near her stone-skinned comrade as the last wave of enemy vessels retreated into spiraling violet funnels.
"Is he running?" she asked, breathing heavily, barely believing it.
"He retreats," her partner confirmed, eyes narrowing.
On the bridge of his flagship, Thanos lingered a moment longer, his gaze settling on the bronze-glowing forms below.
"I underestimated their resolve," he murmured. Then louder, to his generals: "We return. Rebuild. Recalibrate. This war isn't over."
The final portal widened before him, then collapsed inward, taking the Mad Titan and his remaining fleet with it.
Silence returned to Sakaaran orbit.
Only the wreckage of a battlefield remained, smoldering drones, fragments of ships, trails of light fading across the void.
Nova Prime hovered between the two Bronze Lanterns, her golden aura dimming slightly as she surveyed the aftermath. "You two held that line better than most battalions I've seen."
The red-skinned woman exhaled, gripping her cracked shoulder. "And you showed up just in time."
The stone-skinned Lantern nodded once. "Our thanks."
Nova Prime cracked a faint smile. "Don't thank me yet. He'll be back."
She turned toward the stars, her voice lower now.
"And next time… he will come prepared!"
