A week later, the Hokage's office;
Hiruzen was reading a report that had just arrived. As he read, his eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
"Anbu," Hiruzen called, making an Anbu operative with a boar mask appear in front of his desk.
"Call Team Ro. I need them for an important mission." Hiruzen said
"Yes, Hokage-sama," Boar said before disappearing in a body flicker.
A few minutes later;
Team Ro arrived and now stood shoulder to shoulder in front of Hiruzen.
"I am assigning you a mission of utmost urgency and secrecy," Hiruzen said as he took out his spoking pipe and lit it. Team Ro stood silently, waiting for Hiruzen to continue.
"Our spies in Suna and Kiri have sent some unexpected news. There appears to be some sort of treaty negotiation underway between them. A treaty that we know nothing about. This is what worries me, as we are caught between them. If the treaty has something that may harm us, then I need to know. Our spies in Suna said that Suna is going to send an ambassador to Kiri for the negotiations. They couldn't specify who the ambassador is or how strong their escort is." Hiruzen said while the team stayed quiet, listening.
"I want you to infiltrate the land of water, find what this treaty is about, and what the situation is there, and report back," Hiruzen said, announcing the mission parameters.
"This is a high-risk S-rank mission that requires espionage and information gathering. Avoid confrontation unless it is absolutely necessary. And if you get compromised, retreat to the land of fire at all costs. Is everything clear?" Hiruzen said with a serious tone.
"Yes, Hokage-Sama." Team Ro replied
"Good. Leave the village as soon as possible and make sure you all return safely. You all are dismissed." Hiruzen said
"Be at the Anbu headquarters in half an hour," Inu said, to which the rest of the team nodded before they all disappeared in a body flicker.
About half an hour later, in the Anbu headquarters;
Ryuu was the first to arrive, followed by Tenzo, then Neko, and now they stood waiting for Inu to arrive.
It was Ryuu's and Neko's first S-rank mission from the get-go. They did do some S-rank missions before, but that was a rank upgrade that happened during their mission because of circumstances that happened during those missions.
Knowing this, Ryuu has prepared heavily for this mission, bringing extra supplies, weapons, and food rations. All sealed carefully in his pouches. He had also left a simple note for his mother saying that he was out on a mission and his return date was unknown.
Inu then appeared in a body flicker near the rest of the Team. He looked at each one of them carefully looking at their equipment.
"Are you all ready?" Inu asked
"Yes, Inu-Buntaicho." The rest of the team replied
"Good, we are leaving now. If everything goes well, we will be in Kiri in about a week. Keep your eyes peeled and focused. This is a vital and dangerous mission. So be aware of your surroundings as we are conducting this mission deep in enemy territory." Inu said, to which the rest of the team nodded
"Then let's move," Inu said before disappearing in a body flicker, and the rest of the team followed
About two weeks later, Kirigakure;
Team Ro sat together in a small wooden hut that is well hidden in one of the forests just outside Kiri.
The hut was made by Tenzo a week ago. He made it in a well-hidden area near Kiri so that it could be a secret meeting point for the team.
When Ryuu and Neko saw Tenzo using Wood Release for the first time, it came as quite a shock. Especially for Ryuu, as it explained why he felt something familiar in Tenzo's chakra. He also feel that his own Wood Release massively exceeds Tenzo's in power and quality.
When he asked about it, he was told that Tenzo was the product of an experiment that was done by Orochimaru using the first Hokage's cell to try and recreate the Wood Release.
When Ryuu heard this, fury bubbled up in his chest. Someone has desecrated his great-grandfather's grave. He is going to have to find names and reap heads for this with Orochimaru is at the top of the list.
Currently, Team Ro sat together for the second time in the hut after Tenzo made it a week ago.
For the past week, Team Ro had split to gather information and to have a general idea of what Kiri's general situation is.
"So what is the situation?" Inu asked, wanting to see what his team was able to gather.
"The political situation in Kiri isn't stable. The Mizukage is making it difficult for Clans that have bloodlines for an unknown reason, causing quite the unrest among them. But other than that, the situation in Kiri seems to be stable enough." Tenzo said, as he was assigned to find out what the general situation is like in Kiri, while the others were required to look for information about Suna's envoy and what are the contents of the treaty.
"Did you find something about the treaty?" Inu said, looking at Neko
"I am sorry, Inu-Buntaicho. I couldn't find any details about the treaty from the general public. They seem to know nothing of the treaty that is taking place." Neko said degectidly
"That is ok. The general public seems to have no idea that a treaty is taking place. What about you, Ryuu? Did you find anything?" Inu asked
"I did get some information from a worker in the Mizukage tower. It seems that Suna's envoy consists of only one person, and there isn't any information about the treaty's contents, which is weird, looking at who Suna sent." Ryu said
"Who did they send?" Tenzo inquired
"From what I could find, Suna is sending Pakura of the Scourch release. But to send someone of this caliber without Suna or Kiri discussing anything in the treaty yet makes the whole thing very suspicious." Ryuu said, making the other go silent for a while.
"When will Pakura arrive?" Inu asked
"She should be here in a day or two," Ryuu replied
"Then, spread out and wait until she arrives. Then try to find out what is going on and meet back here in a week. Is that understood?" Inu said
"Yes, Inu-Buntaicho," The rest of the team replied before they all disappeared from their hideout.
Something is going on between Suna and Kiri. And the lack of details is quite worrying.
