"That's truly insidious," Shin muttered, looking at the tiny black spots on his body. Those were the injuries from the laser emitters, which had slightly scorched his skin. With a casual rub, the black epidermis peeled away, revealing tender white skin underneath.
As for the laser emitters, he had shattered them one by one with Shigan. Although the laser emitters had strong penetration and lethality, they were too precise and fragile themselves, easily destroyed by Shin.
Wanda, who was beside Shin, looked visibly shaken. Just moments ago, her power had been suppressed, making her unable to even sense Chaos Magic. If Shin hadn't acted quickly, the Scarlet Witch might have been eliminated by those lasers.
Clearly, this trap was set with malicious intent. It specifically targeted Mutants who came to rescue Leech, suppressing their abilities before attacking them with laser beams. In such a situation, almost no Mutants could survive.
Of course, "almost" implies exceptions. Shin himself goes without saying. Some abnormal Mutants could also escape these traps, such as the one before them.
Shin looked with some surprise at a corner of the room, where a scrawny old man in overalls and a hat stood.
This should have been a seemingly ordinary old man, but his presence here was anything but ordinary. If it weren't for the recent laser attack, even Shin wouldn't have noticed this fellow who had been invisible all along.
"Mr. M! Are you alright?" the nervous and panicked little boy Leech asked the scrawny old man.
The scrawny old man smiled, "Don't worry, child, I'm fine."
As he spoke, the scrawny old man turned to look at Shin, "What a peculiar genetic form. You should be considered half a Mutant, shouldn't you?"
Shin's face showed a wary expression. Besides Apocalypse, this was the second Omega Mutant he had seen, possibly even a Super Omega Mutant.
Before the laser attack, Shin truly hadn't seen this guy at all. But after he revealed himself, Shin could feel the incredibly powerful energy erupting from him. Even under Shin's Super Vision, his own material structure was completely different from normal humans, closer to what is called a neutron star.
"Are you also a Mutant?... No, I should say, are you really a Mutant? I've never seen a Mutant as strong as you."
Mr. M pressed down on his hat. "Ah, it's genuine, I am indeed a normal Mutant. I've just lived a bit longer and developed my abilities more than average Mutants, that's all."
Hearing these somewhat humblebragging words, Shin was speechless. Although he had long known that the upper limit for Mutants was very high, this was the first time he had seen such a terrifying, almost abnormal Mutant.
"Then, Mr. M, are you here for this little guy, Jimmy?"
Mr. M smiled and nodded, "This little guy and I share some fate. After he awakened his X-gene, he lived with me in a Mutant town."
"Later, the little guy suddenly disappeared, and I spent a lot of effort to find him here."
Mr. M, this old man, usually lives alone in a small town, having lived most of his life without gaining any fame outside. With his Omega Mutant abilities, this is not an easy feat. One can only say that this old man is truly indifferent to fame and fortune, like a hermit.
Shin didn't know there was such a character in Marvel, nor did he know what kind of abilities he possessed. He could only be certain that this old man was abnormally strong; that so-called Apocalypse definitely couldn't defeat him.
After all, Mutant abilities are diverse and strange, but most have their own flaws, such as not having strong physical bodies or having single combat methods.
However, some Mutants have abilities that can range from one to ten thousand, covering everything. In the original work, Magneto developing magnetic field power to control wormholes already had a bit of that feeling.
And this Mr. M's own atomic arrangement is completely different from normal humans, and he possesses astonishing energy within his body. Clearly, he belongs to that type of monster whose abilities are heaven-defying and incredibly well-developed.
"So, are you planning to take Jimmy back?" Shin asked again.
The old man nodded, then shook his head, "I originally wanted to rescue Jimmy, but if I take him back to the town where I originally lived, the problem might become even more complicated."
"After all, Jimmy's ability is too important; it's impossible for him to go unnoticed. And the people in my town are all Mutants. If the authorities find out, their lives will probably be even harder."
"Moreover... Jimmy is also the only young person in the town. It's fine for a bunch of old men like us to live in the town, but a young lad like Jimmy should go out and see more of the world."
Shin couldn't help but glance at Mr. M. In his opinion, a strong person of this caliber, if not utterly domineering and self-important, would at least not tolerate such indignity.
Yet, this old man gave off the impression of any ordinary elder, still bothered by the government's oppression of Mutants, rather than directly going to the Department of Defense and the Pentagon to twist off the generals' heads.
Anyway, Shin certainly couldn't do something so humiliating.
"Then, sir, why are you looking for Jimmy?" At this moment, Mr. M looked at Shin and asked.
Shin didn't hesitate and told him about the current situation on Earth. After listening, the old man frowned, "That's truly troublesome... When did the safety of the universe ever depend on us Mutants to save it?"
Shin shrugged, "There's no choice. Rather than saving the universe, it's more like saving ourselves. old man, are you participating? I think with your combat power, you could be of great help."
Mr. M shook his head, "Forget it, I'm already this old, why would I go fight? I've never fought in my life!"
Shin was noncommittal about Mr. M's words. No matter how he looked at it, this old man was a true hidden figure. Ordinary Mutants don't have such terrifying body density, and most Mutants don't have any energy in their bodies at all.
Even without Mutant cells, this old man could probably solo Captain Marvel based on his physical prowess alone. Who would believe him when he said he couldn't fight? Shin certainly didn't.
But since he said so, Shin didn't think he could persuade the old man to join the battlefield.
