"Then you drank the blood?" Chen Ke asked.
Jack nodded.
He grasped the small vial of blood and guzzled it down, then fell into a coma, or rather, he entered a strange dream where he journeyed to a place.
It was a lonely mountain peak that stood erect on the black earth, following the whispers of some woman, Jack made his way up the path to the summit. Silver moonlight draped a layer of white frost over the dark mountain, and the black mud beneath his feet seemed as if it could ooze blood.
Standing halfway up the mountain, Jack looked down at the pitch-black land where it met the ink-blue sky on the horizon, a lifeless expanse with nothing in sight but this lone mountain.
He didn't know how long he had walked, but eventually, Jack reached the summit. At the end of the mountain path was a monumental gate, upon which were carved two grey, bat-like creatures, each holding a spear, crouched at either end of the archway, gazing down the path.
